I will be off for a few weeks from the University, and I plan on doing some work on a custom map I have been thinking about for a long time.
Rogue is a SC2 custom map with emphasis on gameplay rather than fancy graphics. Sound familiar? It should, since the rogue-like genre has been around way before DOOM or World of Borecraft.
It would be helpful to have a person or two to bounce ideas off of or anyone who is interested in learning how to map, how to make triggers, or how to data edit in the editor. Skype, at the moment, is my favorite method of communicating, so I hope you have it.
Does anyone have any questions about how to do certain things in the editor or data? I would love to give a live tutorial or two.
Thanks guys,
Vanished (131)

I played a lot of RPG / Single player UMS maps in Brood War. Since trying them in SC2, every single one of them sucks or is over in 10 minutes. Hopefully yours tunes out! :D

Yes, they are all really bad. I'm still looking for a bouncer. PM me or post here.

Yeah sad to say SC2 UMS maps are not even close to as good as bw ones. My particular disappointment was in every iteration of the SF maps :/ I used to love powering through a special forces map by myself, patiently leaving it on to farming waves of enemies for upgrades then leaving it afk for a while. When you've put 30-45 minutes into a UMS to beat it by yourself.. winning becomes that much more satisfying.
Every SC2 version has been just bad comparatively. Ultra easy, broken hard or it just lags after a certain point and becomes unplayable. Bleh. One day.
Whats that Merchants and .. something, mercenaries? That's a good UMS RPGish SC2 map.
I look forward to trying your map. Please release it on NA ^^

Yeah... I feel like there s a lack of passion for it or something... I mean if you create masterpieces like Final Fantasy 2 remakes with modded SC:BW engines where you couldn't even add spells to units... i feel like you could have a legitimate rpg on a seamless product like SC2...
Anyone else remember the days when you had to hotkey barracks/starports to use "spells"? or the 255 upgrade cap? xDDD

Hotkeying barracks and starports ruled. Lol!
I think you also have to remember that RPGs were really lacking in Broodwar also. The engine didn't support them.

The engine was lacking but the gameplay was exciting, which made them fun overall.

Yeah the engine might have been limited but that didn't stop anyone from giving us UMS we still remember.. and play.

I'm pretty interested in learning, since the last thing I ever learned was using BW's campaign editor. I have a little bit of programming experience, but a lot of the tutorials I encounter are pretty boring.

The best way to learn is to just do it yourself. Let me know if you encounter any problems or need a hand getting started.

Added some starter screenshots.
