Three of my classmates. 1 game of LoL. Manlihood at stake. It's on.

I've never played a game of LoL or any dota like game in my life. I know the general concept of a Dota like game. Attack through lanes, units mass from either side and you have a hero doing stuff. However, I've never played it before. Me and a friend (who's also never played LoL before) will be playing against two of my other friends, who do play LoL. I have no idea how good they are but they are level 30, and considering that they didn't mention any level higher than that, I assume that's the max level.

I'm pretty decent at SC2. High masters. But I have no clue how to play LoL. They're too wimpy to play me and my friend at SC2 so we're just doing LoL. Does anyone have any helpful tips or strategies?

When you're just starting out I think you should pick yourself an easy character, and follow a popular guide for that character. You're gonna get smashed but you should become able to do well after a few weeks it's not a difficult game.

1) Focus on last hitting (having the last hit on creeps) so you earn alot of money
2) http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/browse?sort_type=score_weighted&threshold=guides : choose the hero you've taken, highest personal (there are group guides, I dunno what for...) and stick to the TLDR : items mostly.
Skilling order depends on how you feel the game but if you have no clue, follow that.
3) Read the few tips people give about hero spells on the guide
4) Win

As for heroes, LoL puts a "recommended" on some of them, as their gameplay is easier, probably try it.

If they use Runes and Masteries you can't posssibly win unless they are horrible. Should make them make smurf accounts so they don't abuse being a higher level then you.

You're not going to beat them unless they are really really bad simply because the dota style game is such a different playstyle to other games. If you practise a bit beforehand then yes, you'll have a chance because as was previously stated, it's not a hard game. So my advice is to play maybe a dozen games as one champion that you've found a good guide for.

The biggest thing to remember is not to get cocky and just play a safe game. Also wards. if your friends don't use wards, and you do, then you will have a much better chance at winning. They give you map control which is just as good as map control in SC2. Always watch the minimap and check the other lanes. If you don't know where one person is, assume they're trying to gank you.

Here are some ward guides:

Haha, I was about to edit my post to say the exact same thing. I remember when I first started and used some mobafire builds. Even my level 4 self questioned the builds.

Their good if you don't take them seriously and just listen to their incite. plus the pro guides are legit. SV tought me how to jungle and I can win games with his guides.

just only look at the top guides otherwise.

Last hitting is like macroing in cs2 its so undervalued and trained in lower levels but is so important in the game. don't try to play expensive champs or people without any crowd control.

your champ selection is really about the kind of person you are. I'm a tank I can play ap pretty well and I feed harder then twitch played by a guy who doesn't know what a keyboard is when I play any sort of ad hero. play custom games with only you playing and get uset to the different heros abilities.

when in doubt play safe and tower tug. You're probably not going to win there is a hell of a lot of different things you need to learn when playing a moba game like lol.

Also stay away from hon or dota players don't ask just do it.

In no particular order.

+ Show Spoiler +
1. Go to http://www.solomid.net/guides.php and find a champion that you think is cool. Maybe the one you like has sparkles or something. I won't judge you.
2. Read any of the featured guides for that champion.
3. If you have a second monitor, put the guide on it. Otherwise just learn to have sick memory skills or something.
4. When you load into the game, buy the items that the guide tells you to.
5. Pick a lane. Most champions have a lane they're super good and bad at. If you pick a retarded lane choice your friends will yell at you and tell you where to go.
6. Don't get fucked by towers. They hurt for realsies.
7. When you level up, look at the guide and it'll tell you what to level next.
8. In the laning phase (the first 20 minutes or so) just try to focus on last hitting minions (unless you're laning with a friend and he tells you not to)
9. Don't get fucked by enemy champions.
9. In the case that your friends are actually retarded, buy wards.
11. Buy more wards.
12. Place those wards in the river. Your anus will be saved from a thousand years of pain for the next 2-3 minutes.
13. If you want to be friendly for some reason, tell your team when the enemy champions in your lane leave. If you're warding, you have a good chance of seeing them try to gank.
14. Harass when you can, but don't over do it or you might get raped.
15. If you're getting fucked up really bad, go to somewhere safe and recall. If you're stupid, just do it anywhere you want.
16. Every time you're at the store, buy cool ass items. If you don't know what items to buy, look at the guide.
17. If you manage to kill somebody, talk shit about that persons mother in /all chat. This is mandatory in a moba game.
18. If you get killed by somebody, call their champion overpowered (if they're playing the same champion, blame luck or lag.) Also mandatory.
19. If you have a jungler, call him bad and tell him that he's not ganking your lane enough. If he responds to you, just continue calling him bad.
20. If you get into a 1v1/2v2 etc where everybody dies, but they come out with worse losses, tell them it was worth it in /all chat.
21. Eventually the lane towers will start to die. If a tower in your lane falls, blame your lane partner if you have one. Even if it's your friend. He's probably a twat anyways.
22. If a tower in another lane dies, call that person retarded in /all chat so that the other team can understand why you're losing.
23. After the first tower or two starts falling in each lane, follow your friends around. It's not safe to be wandering around when the entire enemy team is missing.
24. If a team fight happens, press buttons and explosions will happen.
25. If you lose the team fight, your friends will probably tell you weren't focusing the right champion.
26. If you ace the other team (they're all dead) do something cool like take baron or push one of their lanes. Or do nothing. It's up to you.
27. One team will eventually start pushing into the other teams base. If an inhibitor is destroyed the nexus for the opposing team will start spawning super minions. They hit for a billion damage.
28. The game will end when one team kills the opposing teams nexus.
29. Don't type gg because that would be well mannered.
30. Infact, wait until you're at the score screen if you're going to BM because more people will see it.
31. If you lost, look at your teams individual scores and find someone who did really poorly. Make sure that everyone knows how shitty they did. If you were the one with shitty score, make sure you blame it on something. There's a whole plethora of things you can blame it on so be sure to be creative.

Congratulations, you've just finished your first game. It was probably terrible. Continue practicing and soon enough you will continue being raped by people that are much wose than you.

You aren't going to win unless if your friends are terrible, unfortunately. But here's some advice

Have them make smurf accounts.. You're already at a disadvantage by not being level 30 and having masteries or runes. Like others have said, concentrate on last hitting. Very important.

Your default keys are: Q W E R. Each are different abilities, and you get two summoner spells, which are D and F. Took me awhile to figure this one out, lol.

Turrets hurt like a bitch. Don't attack enemy champions under them or the turret will attack you. Let me say it again, they hurt like a bitch.

Not much left to add. Everything else is mechanical and takes time to learn. Try looking up some videos on Youtube or smth. Try playing a few games to get the hang of it before you dive right in.

This. The first few weeks of learning a dota-type game are spent going "well I didn't know he could do that!" while getting pounded by other players/game mechanics.

It takes hundreds of hours to even get to level 30 you have very little chance.

I'd try to make an account and play ASAP and play a cheap, strong and easy champion like annie. (melees are no recommended they are harder to play), learn to last hit well (it's easier to last hit with annie, since her Q refunds mana) and do a standardized build i.e
Boots+3 potions
Catalyst
Sorc boots
Rod of ages
Deathcap
Defense or void staff
Just get your farm, harass with auto hits and Q and then burst with stun charged and ultimate at level 6. If they are bad it will be very easy to kill them like this (I dunno if its going to be 2v2 lane, 2 1v1s, queue with more friends for 5v5, or whatever, but its similar in principle, but duo lanes are trickier to coordinate).

You will also need to quickly google the league of legends wiki + champion name when you see their picks you need to have an idea of what their abilities are when they pick since you will not know the champion.

Get your friend to pick another cheap mage like ryze (catalyst/tears/glacial shroud-->banshee is the build with boots+3 start again) and duo lane if its a 2v2. Double mage is easy to play offensively or reactively and don't need items that much to do damage.

Perhaps its better to get a healer since you will get harassed easily since you won't be used to the game but it seems like playing safe is advantageous for the more experienced team.

I seriously doubt you'll win though.

To be quite frank unless your friends are the equivalent of somebody who can't maintain a 40% winrate in bronze league on sc2 than you simply won't win.

It'd be like telling somebody who has never played an RTS to play you in sc2, even if you're not very good you'll still win simply due to familiarity.

A victory is a victory!
Probably good for you though, because I remember my first game of dota (basically LoL) and I was terrible. In fact, I was terrible for my first hundred games.
So if your friends were halfway decent, they would have wiped the floor with you ;p

It's a good thing because three days before the play-date, I hadn't even downloaded LoL, let alone practice.
