Hello teamliquid.
Even tho I wrote that my second blog is going to be about my life as a gamer and how did I end up here, something else has come up.
Me and my friend, and now a business partner have decided to open up a little business on the side. We both have jobs but this would be something like a hobby. We want to sell T-shirts and stickers.
Now, I thought I could mix it up with my urge to do great things for the sc community.
So, could you answer these questions in your replies please:
1) Would you be interested to buy tees/stickers themed with sc2, (possibly TL), gaming in general? 2) How much would you pay for a batch of 20 stickers with your favorite sc2 quotes/ progamer faces / whatever meaning they all are no bigger than a A4 sheet of paper? 3) How much would you pay for a tshirt with same stuff on it?
I know it depends on quality (we will be trying to provide better quality for a little bit higher price if needed), and that you would need to see it first, but it's just a question, very general. We haven't started yet. I'm leaning more towards tshirts cause I just think they're awesome and I would like to make those, but my friend says we should be taking more interest in stickers, cause tshirts are already widely sold.
Also, if we wanted to use TL logo to make some TL shirts and provide you folks with it, can we do that? I guess not, but maybe if we ask the staff? I don know any of this legal stuff yet. This is a very fresh idea.
Also, how about sc2 logos and whatnot? Do you think/know if we need to have permission to use them?
Also, any other tips and opinions would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Ok, then I guess TL have their own store. But this wasn't what I was asking.

I would strongly advice against making spin-off products based on the site that you actually take your consumer input from. Just planting seeds, hoping some day they'll take root.
Also, im not really for stickers. But i could easily pay 15 bucks for a good tee, provided that its actually good. I find most sc2 shirts vulgar and the jokes flat. The only reason to buy them is to give money to that team/group. If you make subtle and aesthetically good tee's you'd make it a viable business opportunity.

I have posted same thing on reddit and based on their answers I want to clear something up:
I am thinking more like thehandsomenerd.com type of shirts (only with better designs). I know I can't just take blizzards/tls/progamers art and use it as I wish. But stuff like quotes, inside jokes, and so on don't belong to anyone so we could use those right? We could get some artists to draw designs. Ofc we won't use logos without permission. Maybe even some people from TL would like to draw something and if it's really cool other people would buy it?
TL and other gaming communities would be just part of the target group.
The question is for example, can I make a flyer/sticker that says "'More GG, More Skill' - White-Ra" on it?

Whos the model on that site btw?

If you are referencing a pro, you will be well adviced to get in touch with them and try to work out a deal (or at least get permission). I remembered StarNation got permission to make "more gg more skill" shirt from White-Ra to support the documentary.
The last thing a fledging outfit needs is angry Pros at your back. Hell has no fury like angry fans sent on a mission. On the other hand, with some pro support, you get an easy platform to promote yourself quickly.

Yeah I figured that much :/ I really won't do anything without permissions. Thank you very much! When we get this thing going I'm gonna try to contact some gamers maybe to let us use their intellectual property. If it goes well, teamliquid will be the first to know where they can get stuff from!

The Pros are actually rather easy to reach, so don't feel intimidated.

I would buy an eagles shirt. >o> Also a spawn additional chairs shirt.
For a good quality t-shirt I'd pay about $15. Not so interested in the stickers.

Remember that u need a Blizzard license to sell SC2 related products.
Can I make and sell my own products (T-shirts, card games, models/figures, etc.) based on a Blizzard universe?
No. Blizzard Entertainment® does not enter into licensing agreements with individuals. To ensure the quality of all Blizzard products, all of our merchandise is created under a licensing agreement and all prospective licensees are thoroughly reviewed by Blizzard Entertainment before a license is granted. If you are a company that is interested in creating licensed merchandise and your company is looking to pursue a corporate licensing relationship with Blizzard Entertainment, please contact merchandiselicensing@blizzard.com.

That's based on a Blizzard universe though, so if you only made shirts that were community jokes, like the SUP SON shirt, you would be fine. But yeah, don't get in legal trouble.

yeah but that might be a different can of worms as well. And even if there's no legal means for them to prevent you, you've also gotta consider that the community itself might turn against you as well
good luck, just make sure you do your homework and don't step on toes!

N/m it's already there... gl
I have enough tshirts already haha

I wouldn't buy any, well, stickers that are supposed to go on a locker or something. I would buy a bumper sticker in a heartbeat though. Those usually go for like, $3-5, but, given that it's SC2 themed, I'd go up to like $6-7. For a t-shirt, I would pay like $15, but I'm also kind of thrifty.

If I was going to buy a shirt to show my support of an organization or product, I'd buy it through an appropriate retailer so I actually WAS supporting it.
Maybe that's just me.
