Absolutely true man, although he got way better in terms of unforced errors (seriously, last season I felt like pulling me hair and throwing TV out of the windows with all those stupid misses) , he continues to make them especially at critical moments. I'll always cheer for him as long as he playes, and to be honest even though he lost now, he lost to Djokovic, who's been on fire this season and always a great player, and in fucking semi-finals, which he got to with pretty much not sweating. He's still playing great. He is losing the mental battle though. These new players are hungry for more success and more determined. Federer has done it all, and playing his last couple-3 years or so. He can't have the same hunger anymore, it's understandable after all. I'm all okay with this. What really makes me sad is that he shows his best play and fucks it up after some point...That destroys the whole thing and your excitement, your passion and all that. I still hope noone will catch up to his records for a long time. I don't think Nadal will do that with the way he stresses his body, and Djokovic may very well, but we just have to wait. The fact of the matter is, Djokovic, Murray, etc., all these guys are flat players compared to Federer and Nadal. Those two are special. It feels like the last generation of tennis players is putting the fitness and power way too much infront. Nadal also does this, but his superb topspin forehands and insane angles he can come up with shows that he's special. Federer is a monster that can pull of every shot with an elegance that rivals a cat's silky movements. I just fear that after him, we may very well not see another that player that utilizes the technical aspects as much as him, because I think what you do with the racquet is way more important to me than how fast you can run or how powerful you can shoot.

You make a really good point! Federer's style of play is truly legendary. I first saw highlights of his vids on Youtube, and his aresenal of shots and trickshots is just phenomenal. Truly unrivaled. He just dominates the game without making it boring to watch. But also, it might not even be his number of Slams, but what he has done off the court. He was and remains the ambassador of the sport. Djokovic might be number one, but only on paper, not to the world or in so many peoples' hearts. I think that's one of the main reasons Federer should be considered GOAT.

i unno man.... all i can say is that i am depressed ![]() I fucking love federer... I SOOOOOOO wanted him to win ![]() On September 11 2011 07:13 Itsmedudeman wrote: That's not fair to djokovic though because this is his first year as #1 and one of the most legendary players of the sport are still playing well so of course his fan base won't be as big yet. I personally like djokovic's playstyle. It's really well-rounded, and he doesn't just rely on his serve to win games. He's one of the best returners the game has ever seen, and the way he gets back into the point and then slowly turns the rallies into his favor is amazing. Who knows how much better he can actually get in the future. djokovic is fucking boring to watch... even andy murray can be more entertaining them him. I don't care if he dances / does impressions / is a nice guy.. I don't care one fucking bit because his play is just so goddamn boring...

He can hit fairly hard groundstrokes and I don't have anything to say against his returns....but his control of the racquet cannot rival Federer. When he was totally dominating, it was like a cat and mouse game, a slice, then a fast flat shot, another slice, another slice, then a drop shot, it was mesmerizing. I've yet to see this play from Djokovic yet, and this is the season that he is really shining. He is a great player, but he is not as impressive as Federer has been, or Nadal with those crazy forehands.

Mastery of all shots in the book.

Really wanted another Nadal/Fed finals, but fed looked so shaky the last 3 sets. You could feel Federer was about to lose after losing the 3rd set. Love this period of tennis because of the big four of Nadal, Fed, Djoker, Murray. Sadly, time is now working against Fed but he will still be the GOAT.

I don't think there's actually a boring style in tennis. Most of the time I can find something I like about someone's game if he's winning with it. For Djokovic I like his baseline play. Hits precise, pinpoint shots and turns bad rallies around fast is pretty cool to see.

It's true that he's getting older, but to me it feels like it's not the fitness and physical condition that's hampering Federer. It's the mental block that he cannot get over versus great players ever since he lost to Nadal at Wimbledon 2008. uh, no, he has like 3x the mileage that an NBA player would have at that age. hard miles too, running on concrete all day in the searing heat. 30 in tennis is _old_.

This statement just gave me more hope in him. I hope 2012 will be a much better year! I got that quote from this http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2011/09/36/US-Open-Saturday2-Federer-US-Open-Heartbreak.aspx

I got that quote from this http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2011/09/36/US-Open-Saturday2-Federer-US-Open-Heartbreak.aspx He is right, his level of play really amazing right now, it's just that mentally, he doesn't have the aura of a dominator anymore. His major problems began with Nadal, this kid that beat him everywhere on every event and gave him the hardest times of his carreer. Nadal taught Federer that he is not in fact, not invincible. Didn't he lose matches before, oh yes he did very rarely but sometimes, yeah. But not like he lost to Nadal. Federer began to doubt himself (just a little though) after that, and although we really didn't see a slump from him yet (he is still in quarters, semis, finals, he is doing great no matter what), now, when he got in trouble during matches, no longer he could easily think " I can turn this around man, I'm gonna do it", but it was more like "I can turn this around....but what if I cannot?" Those doubts have eaten Federer in his matches. His loss today and his loss to Del Potro are two examples of that. These emotions cause him to commit too many unforced errors at the worst times possible, and that makes him lose matches.

Muster, Bruguera, Lendl to a certain extend, Hewitt, etc. THOSE were boring players. Murray used to be extremely boring but i must admit he's improved especially at the net and with nice drop shops.
