Agreed. Federer is the GOAT. The clear-cut goat. Not only is it shown by his win rate////# of grand slams, but also his playstyle. His playstyle is so fluent and sexy. I literally get boners after watching his matches (no homo). However, losing AFTER being up 2 sets AND having match point, sigh!!!!!!!!!
oh well federer still GOAT imo (until Nadal gets the same amount of slams QQ)
|
Nadal's gonna have a hard time getting to 16 with Djokovic playing the way he is. Federer might have the record for a while because the competition just seems that much stronger from when fed was winning 2-3 every year.
|
Remember the good days when Federer use to stomp Djokovic all the time? I miss that

The same thing happene agains Djokovic last year, and also against Del Potro the year before that. It makes me angry..........It's different than watching a complete walkover that you may try to symphatize and feel perhaps sorry and sad for your favourite player....But after going 2 sets ahead........It just kills you.........He had the freaking match point for twice and he just sent it out.
No other tennis player plays as sexy as Federer (Nadal gets close, with that cool forehand of his, but his backhand is just regular), noone moves as fluid and elegant as he does, noone has the greatest one handed backhand of all time as he does, he is just GOAT. But he lost his mental edge to Nadal after losing to him in a row so many times, and his confidence is not as high as it used to be 4 years or so ago.
I've felt so bad towards Nadal for a long time due to this,if he came into the scene 1-2 years later, Federer would be much more comfortable....Or I would be, I'm not sure. I just hope noone gets close to Federer's GS record right now, and frankly it doesn't seem like it, with Djokovic on this form and Nadal fucking up his own body so hard with that kind of extreme performance.

I've always thought Federer had the best movement of any player, but I would never say his backhand is great. A lot of the top players seem to abuse it by constantly going to it on serves and to get a better handle in the rallies as djokovic did this game. Federer's forehand is probably the greatest of all time I agree.
He shouldn't retire though. Overall I think he's been playing incredibly well and losing to a guy who has lost only twice this year isn't any signs of Federer getting worse.

But that was 3 years ago. Since then, Federer's backhand has improved hugely. You can see that both this game, and the last Roland Garros semi-final against Djokovic (where he won). It is much more solid right now.
Federer's problem is this: There are two possibilities after he gets ahead:
1) He playes the most godlike tennis ever and completely dominates, winning the match with an epic game (Last Roland Garros final, the 09 Wimbledon Final against Roddick, and many other games)
2) He gets too excited, too nervous or complacent I really don't have a fucking clue, and he loses some key shots and he gets all too scared and loses the game. For the last 2-3 years, this has really been the case.
He is still a great player no matter this, he may no longer dominate but he is alllways up there, which says something about this play nevertheless. But cmon...Just win one grandslam this year...It didn't happen ((((((((((((((((
Seriously, besides the 09 Roland Garros versus Nadal, I've never seen Federer get fucking dominated from beginning to end... He always fights, get ahead, and messes it up. This is much harder to watch...

See, the thing is is that he's way past his prime. He's fricking 30 playing a 24 year old. You pit the 24 year old Federer against the 24 year old Djokovic and see what happens. Federer is doing tremendously well for a 30 year old.

I don't really agree with that statement. It's true that he's getting older, but to me it feels like it's not the fitness and physical condition that's hampering Federer. It's the mental block that he cannot get over versus great players ever since he lost to Nadal at Wimbledon 2008.

Mhm, agree with you there. He's lost that "god-like" aura. He jsut doesn't have that extra gear left to take the game away and win those huge matches. But that does come with time. He's a father, settling down, and to me, past his dominating era.

well if you take a look at djoko's record breaking season...you might understand why. djoko is the #1 ranked player and #1 ranked players can stage comebacks against the best.

Federer lost this match. Djokovic didn't really win it, especially not after going two sets behin. Take a look at the matches that Federer lost in Grand Slams since 2008, except the 09 Roland Garros finals and maybe the Australian Open against Nadal, he didn't ever feel desperate versus his opponent's play. His losses has come from his inability to get over the fact that there are players that have the ability to beat him. This fact just worries him to the point that he makes terrible mistakes. Last Wimbledon against Tsonga, Last Roland Garros against Nadal, Last year's US Open Semis against Djokovic and his loss to Berdych at 2010 Wimbledon, his 2009 loss to Del Potro (which shocked me really, I didn't expect it). None of these losses were ones that he got dominated. Instead, he showed great level of play, got opportunities, and burned them all due to his own mistakes. Same thing has been happening for last 2-3 years and it's killing his fans..

Unforced errors. He just can't execute like he did before. But man, will always cheer for him!!
