A short intro to myself and prior involvement with Starcraft. I'm a 21 year old student currently working towards a degree in Computer Science, working part-time at a movie theater as a projectionist. I never truly got too involved with Starcraft 1 aside from playing through the campaigns. My 'career' as a gamer dates back to when I was 2 years old, and I've been terribly infatuated ever since. The two prominent genres for me would have to be FPS and MMO games, which I seem to have quite a knack for. I can pick up any typical shooter game, and absolutely slaughter 90% of the general community. I've played quite a handful of MMOs, the big ones being WoW and the failed Age of Conan.
Some friends convinced me to buy Starcraft 2 at a midnight release, despite my general dislike for RTS games in general (largely because I was so terrible at them). However, upon discovering the E-sports scene, such as a GSL, I'd become quite interested in improving my play. This is due in no small part to the fact that I was simply tired of having such an easy time destroying in FPS games with minimal effort. (I'd like to point out, I'm certainly not tournament level material in FPS games, but you don't have to be to be a hell of a lot better than most players.)
My friends quickly played, raged, and quit playing Starcraft 2 leaving me to once again play through the campaign. I'm certain this story has been told many times across various SC2 forums, but I was one of those players who was terrified to click that 'Find Match' button for the longest time. That's since faded, however I feel I still don't get quite enough games in to really be getting any better as I have a bad habit of studying the theories and strategies on forums and in replays rather than gaining experience in the practical application, hence why I started this blog.
Here is my current list of goals, and it may or not be updated in the future:
1. Develop my skills in Starcraft 2 through consistent, solid play. (Not cheese)
2. Eventually obtain a position in Master league.
3. Play at *least* 5 games per day. If something comes up, and I am unable to play 5 games in one day, then to make up these games asap.
4. Focus on one 'build' per matchup until I feel I can comfortably and consistently execute that build.
The builds I have chosen are as follows:
ZvT: Ice Fisher
ZvP: 21 Speedling Expand
ZvZ: 15 Hatch
I feel the Ice Fisher build will allow me to focus on mid-game play more often as a game will either end by a Terran all-in or being forced to mid-game.
I think the speedling expand will allow me to practice expanding behind aggression / offensive contain.
And the 15 hatch for ZvZ, I'll probably try going into a roach defense type play, and either push out with a strong roach offensive, or take it into mid-lage game depending on the situation.
Anyways, as said before, these are all just initial thoughts and they are likely to change. This blog isn't particularly intended for people to read, but if you feel like leaving any comments / advice it's always appreciated.
