Because of Dream World. It's much less effective without its DW ability or Ninetales' DW ability.

Bottom line is that they're all pretty bad but Squirtle is the coolest. From a competitive standpoint they all suck so whatever, not the point. I always picked Charizard because dragons. Actually I've gone with the fire starter every game except Gen V so I guess I'm just partial to them. How could you pick the ugly monkey over Pochama?
Never played Gen IV. But Piplup is obviously the best there no question.
edit: Venusaur would be meh too if they hadn't changed Growth.

I chose charmander back in the day BECAUSE HE'S MOTHERFUCKINGFIREEEEE
too bad he was terrible for the first few levels.
When my brother and I shared a red cartridge, he ended up using charmander, and i, fittingly, played blue later when we got a 2nd game, and used squirtle, we later shared all our combined pokemanz tho

Alright homies check out the gimmickiest thing I ever used competitively. Blastoise, as much as HP as you can get and a lot of special defense. Wait for something to hit you with a thunder attack then mirror coat or whatever the thing that bounces back special attacks is. :D
The thing almost never got one shot and then got a kill.

I always got the impression that most people thought Bulbasaur was the lamest. In fact, I think Charmander might have been the most popular. The poll clearly reflects this, so I'm wondering if you and your friends were just weird. (jk)

Actually, what are your thoughts on Solar Power Charizard?

Terrible. Bad coverage + weak defenses/speed = not actually doing anything. If you need a special attacker in the sun, just use Volcarona.

I actually remember using butterfree as well but I cant think of what he did. I can only remember it having tackle, assuming you trained from a caterpie. I'm thinking it had some sort of status powder thing but that still wouldnt help kill shit.
Confusion, learnt at level 12. But Butterfree was only really necessary in Yellow where you only had Pikachu (alternatively, Nidoran works too). When I first played Yellow I beat Brock by using Sand Attack lots and Leer into mass Tackling lol... Haha that's epic.
If you were not so friendly with these two, you could also catch a Mankey (located left from Viridian City) and Low Kick Brock's Pokémon out of existence.

the choice between charmander/squirtle/bulbasaur is like a choice between cake/pie/herpes
you'd have to be an idiot to choose herpes but the choice between cake and pie is one of personal preference

i think blastoise is the best when it comes to strength, but bulbasaur is my fav pokemon of all time
|
I always choose the water type starters. Squirtle was the shit. None of the other pokemon have anything close to the levels of rad contained within a Squirtle squad. :D

These starters are all badass unlike some of the new ones T___T Ash's char was such a dick though, whereas his squirtle and bulbasaur were total ballerz
Ash's char was only a dick after it evolved. It was the sweetest thing when it was still Charmander. Remember the episode when he first met Ash? Waiting for his owner on that rock? So awesome!

charmander hands down LOL. no questions asked
|
Everyone goes with Charmander/Squirtle :V Go with bulbasaur !
|
Based on reading the first page, Squirtle supporters like myself are most vocal about their favourite Pokemon. So even though the gray, boring, and quiet majority of Charmander fans out there outnumber us, we win due to dominating the discussion.
Pokemon Blue was the shit, and still is.

During RBY generation, Bulbasaur was the best choice competitively. Squirtle made for by far the easiest single player game, but in multiplayer, he's the worst of the three.

Charmander was kinda an illogical choise given the first gyms, but who cared, Fire all the way baby
|
Exactly! Fire for the win, forever! Charmander :3
Good to see that TL knows what's up B)

Charmander. Ballers only. Pewter and Cerulean City got nothing on me- what elemental disadvantage.
