I don't see any of your other pokemon being ballers wearing sunglasses. Yeah. That's what I thought.

His 3rd form doesn't have the raw power of Charizard or the combination of strength and versatility of Blastoise, but he is far more useful in 1-on-1 fights with pretty much any tough Pokémon, and he's one of the best grass types as far as learnable moves go. Leech seed + toxic combo, little bit of body slam for solid damage and good paralyze chance, and solarbeam for RAPING type advantages made him my go-to unit back in the old days of Red. On subsequent trips through, I'd pick him and grab a Nido (male) for a strong as hell Nidoking with body slam, thrash, and earthquake, and always buy the Magikarp before Mt. Moon and baby it all the way into the mighty Gyarados before taking on Misty. Pick up drowzee for a solid dream eating Hypno later on, and would usually end up rounding out with Articuno (man I LOVED pre-gold/silver Arti, before they split up the special stat, he ROCKED) and Zapdos to take on the elite four and the rival. Man, good times. Bottom line is that they're all pretty bad but Squirtle is the coolest. Can you please explain to me what exactly competitive pokemon is? I was under the impression that because Pokemon is a turn based game with only one right way to play (use the strongest move and make sure you pokemon is the right element), actual gameplay input is extremely limited. I mean what can you do that someone who's read a comprehensive guide to competitive pokemon in 10 minutes can't do in a pokemon battle? play against a good person or one of the stadium games on the n64 (where they also cheat horribly lol perfect % chance effects EVERY TIME MAN) and they'd teach you there is a lot more to it. Especially the newer the games get, the more new tactics get included because of moves with weird effects. I only played up to gold and silver, and the difference in strategy in one generation leap is HUGE.

Squirtle makes the game the easiest though, you blaze through the final gyms like nothing. The elite four are incredibly easy as well.

Of course I'm speaking really objectively from a R/B standpoint and not all these new pokemons and stuff, I hope that is what we're discussing. charmander had scratch! and there were no fighting moves at that level except mankey's low kick. the best way to beat brock if choosing charmander was to use pidgey's sand attack until it stops working and then gust/scratch/ember him to death you could also make a butterfree with confusion (quite tedious)

Even his sc2 player reincarnation is cute as hell. Wartortle is super duper cool and Blastoise is pretty badass. And his weakest stat, speed, was the least important one, so he had overall better stats than the other two. And btw you could easily rape Brock with Charmander using Ember. Maybe a potion was required, but still, easy business. Speed is actually quite important so i don't know what you are talking about lol. It was even more important in RBY cause it affected crit afaik. Competitively Charmander has always been the best out of the RBY starters. I've never played competitive pokémon. As far as I know, if you were to play competitive pokémon you should not be using starters, so who cares. And I didn't know about the crit rate boost lol pretty cool Infernape wants a word with you

EDIT: btw OP great blog, 5/5, you got all the people involved in something as trivial as pokémon thanks to a great composition
