I'm a long time reader, first time poster from Bavaria, Germany. I'm 27 years old and working as a Software Engineer.
The purpose of my blog here on TL is simply to document my progress as a Zerg player and to keep my motivation up for practicing and playing Starcraft. I have a lot of excuses for not practicing on a regular basis, as I am working fulltime and living together with my girlfriend and my 9 months old son. My goal is to make to Diamond within Season 2...
The story so far
I played some Starcraft 1 a very long time ago. I remember me playing it on my father's computer and a 56k dail-up connection... Hitting the modem's power-button everytime I was about to lose a match. Of course, this was happening most of the games I played, as I was only able to practice every two weeks when visiting my dad on the weekends.
At some point I lost my interest in RTS games and focused mainly on first person shooters and role playing games.
As time went by, I played every single Blizzard game since Diablo 1 and became a huge World of Warcraft fan. Nearly exactly one year ago, I got an beta invite for Starcraft 2. I was quite excited, as I remembered my first online experiences with SC1. So I logged in and started playing (no more disconnecting but taking losses like a man). And I was really bad and switched between Terran and Zerg several times. Until one of my friends told me about a thing called "build order" and a website called teamliquid.net... I started reading the Zerg-BOs on liquipedia and started using the 1Base fast mutas-build. This got me a good win-loss ratio and I was promoted from Copper to Bronze... Big moment for me ;-)
After finishing the campaign in the release version of Starcraft, I did my placement matches and entered the Silver league. In the course of Season 1 I got promoted to Gold and finished on 5th place in my division.
In Season 1, I had a lot of pauses between training/laddering sessions. My main goal for Season 2 is to play at least three matches every evening, to get some consistency in my play.
Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed it!
Please feel free to leave a comment, especially if you have some advice for training on a casual but regular basis.
