I owe Froadac this blog but I also figure TL users would have fun reading about this, my first new car buying experience.
so I started working full time in December and spent most of my first paychecks saving as much as possible to put for a down payment on a new car that I desperately needed (and wanted something freakin amazing) so after deciding what I really wanted over the past couple weeks (my 3 basics were: A. Looked awesome B. Drove awesome and C. Wasn't an outlandish price) After looking around I settled on a new 2011 genesis coupe. Hyundai isn't really known too well for sporty cars, they've been known as a more economical manufacturer for a long time I think. The only comparable thing they've ever made I think is the tiburon, (I'm not really a car expert so somebody can correct me if I'm wrong) but it seemed like all the reviews I read of the genesis were it was really good so after a while I realized I kept getting drawn there over any other make/model. I'm not a diehard of any brand of make or anything I just kinda looked at the market from my own point of view and tried to picture what I could see myself driving.
My bank is freakin awesome (USAA) since my parents were military I get USAA coverage for life, I dunno how good other banks are but USAA is sick sweet. They have a car buying service where you literally plug in what you want and they tell you what dealers in your area have that car and you just submit a form and the next day the dealer contacts YOU. Was so awesome I literally just filled out what I wanted (color/trim/model) and it searches for the best price with dealers in the area and the price is protected (meaning no haggle/fuss/dealer trying to sell you loads of bullshit) you can walk in with this invoice and literally leave with whatever price is on it no questions asked.
Anyway I did that on like Thursday. on Friday the dealer called me and I scheduled a test drive on Saturday. Went there on Saturday and the test drive was freaking amazing the car drives SO nice. Worked out loan and financing stuff and picked the car up tonight, so all in all it took a total of 3 days from when I submitted my initial form to when I drove home with a new car... freakin crazy shit. I'm not planning on racing and shit like that so I opted for the 2.0T 4 cylinder turbo model (which apparently saves alot on insurance compared to the v6, plus its better on gas mileage) I did all the financing through my bank which also saved me alot, I got a loan at a great rate. I finally have a car that's fun to drive for the first time in my life... SO AWESOME!!! It has 50 miles on it and I put like 30 on it tonight just driving home from the dealer/around town LOL.
I took pictures in the dark cuz I just got home with it a few hours ago, but I couldn't post a blog about a new car without pics of some sort... :D I decided on silver for the color cuz I was warned "black isn't a color it's a part time job" (thx torenhire LOL) and didn't really prefer a red/white one just out of preference.
+ Show Spoiler +
edit: oh and I also opted for the automatic transmission cuz I'm lazy but you can also drive it like a manual too, it has a manual mode and shifter paddles on the steering wheel or up/down shift on stick. it's really awesome lol.

grats dude, looks nice

Nice! Grats Rob!
If anyone gives you shit about not driving manual... I almost got the Bird in manual transmission. I prefer it, honestly...but you're just silly if you think that driving manual with this area's traffic is anything but annoying, obnoxious, and just flat out tiring.
Car looks really good in silver! (Red is better, red car imba) and glad I could be the one to warn you about black vehicles.
You know the forever alone meme?
You could put a picture of my car in the middle and caption it
FOREVER
DIRTY
or some shit like that.
edit: I like your shark fin.

I think everyone that has a black car needs to just take a picture and caption it with this. I can't stand my car. It's awesome and looks beautiful when clean, but 2 days after cleaning, it looks like shit =/.

:O I think I'm going to stop working on getting a car and ask you for rides every single time.

oh congrats new car! Just in time to enjoy soon-to-be $4 a gallon gas... ;o

Looks sweet rob! It's always super awesome getting a new car. I can't wait till next year when I can get a new one, but I will miss my jeep when that happens
|
Yes. Quite the epic car.
What will be the total cost excluding financing?
Genesis is actually a smaller car, which got discontinued, but they'll come out with a new equivalent in like 2013.
|
Love it! hopefully this will car will last you for awhile
|
oh shit epic... how much?
|
oh wow, nice car. grats on getting up to this point

Congratulations man! The Genesis coupe is so sexy and Hyundai has really stepped up their quality/reliability in the past few years. Great purchase!

That was a nice choice, and I like the silver on it too (most cars I hate white/silver, but it works well with the curves of the front of the hood)
Awesome choice dude, can't wait to see it
PS: Help me get my first car in a couple years lol, that easily 3 days and no fuss, damn.

I should get my parents to join the military.

lol awesome. I have an 07 sonata. I think Hyundai cars are really overrated. My parents got it for like 8-9k with like 38k miles on it or something. We already had one sonata too. They are great cars. I will probably continue getting Hyundai cars for a long time the price seems good for what you get. I will say my car is a v6 and my mileage can kind of suck. I get like 17mpg but I speed like crazy. My sisters is a v4 though and it gets like 26 which is significantly better. I kind of wish I got that car >.< oh well, beggars can't be choosers.
Enjoy your car, it looks awesome.

You mean underrated right?
My 2010 Genesis Coupe looks like a 50k car just by the body style and sleek. I got mine debadged though because it kind of took away from the look. It gets plenty of looks.
Hyundai in general makes awesome cars though

22k
financed 16k through bank and paid the rest up front so I'll have like $300 a month payments which is really affordable for me.
And I agree with the post above, the car feels like 40-50k easily.
|
Title so misleading, genesis and genesis coupe are quite different cars~
I'm thinking of getting the former in the future for its touted superfancy interior, but I am quite attracted to the coupe as well >>;;
Nice purchase!! Have fun with it :3

The car feels real nice. I have two cousins. One has the infinity x35 or whatever it is, the other has this. The power isn't comparable just due to the fact that the infinity has the largest engine possible, and the hyundai has the lowest engine possible, but they both have nice rides and interiors.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it feels like a 40-50k car lol especially if its an automatic , a 40-50k car would be like a 370z (well, thats more like 35-40k) That said it is a nice car though, and for a great price.

The Genesis quite nicely mimics the infiniti. I was looking at it but after sitting it it and a few other coupes, I decided a two door just wasn't my bag (I went with an 08 A4 2.0T). Hyundai had upped their quality in both ride and looks greatly in the past two years though. It's not like buying a Tiberon anymore (which was not nearly as nice as it looked). They're legit cars now.
my only comment is that you def should have gone stick!!
What was the sticker price and what did you pay?? I'm curious how my haggling skills stack up, though I think more is negotiable in new vs CPO car.
congrats! I'm so excited to have my new car on friday, even though we will both be getting screwed for gas. You're premium too with the turbo right??

He has a point, you wouldn't see a car like that on the road over here.

yeah premium gas = gg no re.
I didn't do any haggling I had a price invoice with a guaranteed price and just refused most of the "extras" that they tried to sell. I walked in with a slip saying $22,868 and I walked out paying exactly that plus tax+tags fee.
and dude that's awesome ur getting a new car too? you need to blog about ur experience too.
and rofl at that Jeremy Clarkson quote, what year is that from? :D

Haha. My cousin got down to 19,999. So pro.
|
2 years old, i remember reading it in the top gear magazine
|
Is that a pre-Phil Collins model?
|
Don't mind Clarkson's comments on Hyundai's lol, unless its a jaguar, aston, or some form of mercedes he'll probably hate it ;P
I think he likes the Skyline GTR and 370z but he's not a fan of asian cars lol, and Hyundai is sorta tossed aside on top gear just because its a korean car company.

Noooooo.
Seriously, working night shifts = my office is around 40 minutes away.
Working during normal hour shifts = my office is around 2.25 hours away.
Stick would be AWFUL in this kind of traffic. >_<
