I used to get excited about Winner's League. The idea that good players would be able to distinguish themselves was pretty neat, and it was pretty fun seeing if a given player could pull off that last kill and achieve glory.

Lately though, I've come to the conclusion that two rounds of Winner's League is too much. I watch Proleague because I want to see good games and because I want to cheer on my favorite teams. In Winner's League, however, team depth doesn't really seem to matter if your top one or two players are good enough. I think Proleague should remain more focused on the team as a whole as opposed to individual players since we already have the OSL and MSL to separate the good players from the great.

In the end though, I think I'm just pissed at how badly ACE is getting crushed just because they don't have a good ace. They were ahead of KTF and Oz at the end of round 2. Since then, they've gone 0-11 because of Winner's League. Goddamnit.

I like WL once a season like it was before. It was a nice mid-league kind of thing, had it's own little mini championship and was great. It shouldn't be two straight proleague rounds for sure, though.

Yeah I very much agree. Though I wish we could go back to having all 4 games announced in advance. TT

I'm more concerned about bringing back the 2v2 format. What's a team without actual teamwork?

Agreed. I love WL and PL format, but both can get a little stale.

Honestly, in a 6 rounds per year format like we have this year, alternating PL and WL would be my prefered format. That way, neither one gets boring.

The problem with 2v2 was that whoever was on the 2v2 team would have less time to practise 1v1, so they would suffer in individual leagues.

As for WL, I actually prefer the format to regular PL. In the normal format, many of the games are mismatched and one-sided. In WL, when one-man teams can play their ace several times, then the average game has higher quality players in it.

i'm assuming the reason they are back to back is for the winner's cup in the end?

Yeah, but then you might as well have one man teams. If I want to see an individual player destroy everyone, I'll watch the individual leagues.

I agree that WL for 2/5 rounds for the season is a little much :/

But I also agree that I really miss knowing the lineup for the normal PL before hand

Meh, I'd rather watch Flash or Bisu play 4 games than (relatively speaking) randoms, and AKs/reverse AKs are always fun to watch.

its 2/6 seasons isn't it?

also i preferred just 1 season of winners league. With the WL final and stuff it really felt special. Hopefully they do the final at the end of this round, if they dont i will be dissapointed

Even though I like seeing good players taking the spotlight with all-kills and stuff, I prefer PL more because that's where the actual team actually gets to play like a team. WL just takes off the team part of the equation.

You are drawing the wrong conclusions here..

ACE has been allkilled by the likes of Stats, Baby, Han and Magikarp. That's not SWL's fault. ACE was doing well in the first 2 rounds because their players actually stepped up and performed. This isn't the case of them getting AK'd by nothing but team aces.

For KT, yes, Flash is a monster, however, he is not the sole reason for their dominance. Similar to the case of ACE, KT's players performance has just changed from the first couple rounds where they largely slumped. Lets look at KT's current 10-kill streak:

(P)Stats AK.
(P)Stats 1, (T)Flash 3.
(P)Stats 1, (T)Flash 3.
Violet 3, (P)Stats 1.
Violet 3, (T)Flash 1.
(P)Reach 1, (T)Flash 2, (Z)Action 1.
(Z)Action 1, (T)Flash 3.
(T)Flash AK.
(T)Flash 2, (P)Stats 2.
(T)Barracks 1, (Z)Action 3.

Thats 3 matches of Flash not even playing, and 1 of Flash only getting 1. KT is not as dependent on Flash as some people are implying these days, though its obviously a nice thing to be able to fall back on. Granted they would have likely had some losses without him, but he is not winning every set for them.

(Obligatory cat picture to break up the text)

Oz also is not JDOz this SWL. JD has been slumping (by his former standards) and only ran 10-5, with 3 of those losses occuring at 0 kills for him. For comparison, HiyA is 11-5 and Killer is also 11-5. JD is hardly carrying his team at the moment.

The only team that is extremely ace-player dependent at the moment is SKT. Of their matches:

3x (P)Bisu AK
1x (T)Fantasy Allkill
1x 3 (P)Bisu, 1 (T)Fantasy
1x 1 (P)By.Sun, 2 (T)Fantasy, 1 (P)Bisu.
4x Losses.

So up until their last match (Fantasy's AK), SKT hadn't won a match where Bisu hasn't played, and 4 of their 6 wins came from heavily relying on Bisu (3 AKs, 1x3 kill).

So while its ok to be sad for ACE (which I am), you can't blame the SWL format on their current state, nor KT/Oz on theirs. I do hope that the remainder of round 4 does give us an ACE comeback though.

This post came out a lot longer than I initially planned :3
I'm going to sleep, let me get some of that carpet.

As a KT and Flash fan I can't support getting rid of a WL round but I think this is a good idea. They could even use the Dream League format with 4 players for one of the rounds for even more variety.

This. 2 out of 6 rounds as winners league is reasonable. Maybe make rounds 2 and 4 or 3 and 6 winners league?

But the problem with that is, that if you make WL in round 3 and 6, WL finals are going to be around at the same time as PL finals, and we don't want that. If you do it at week 2 and 4, then it would begin too early for my opinion.

Honestly I love WL. But maybe that's because I'm a KT fanboy. GOD YOUNGHO!!!

I have a feeling Oz and KT fanboys are going to disagree with you . On a more serious note, I like how WL can bring out the best in more obscure players (minidong's rise to glory, anyone?).

Actually in WL, Flash is rarely sent out, so Flash fans should be disappointed.
Bisu was even able to snatch away 1-st place with most wins due to this format.
I think in the next game vs ACE you wouldn't see Flash either.

I like WL coz it give more play-time to rookies.

How does WL give more play time to rookies? In WL, teams send 4 players. In PL, they send 6 or even 7 if they choose to do so

I miss 2v2 in proleague.

I like the variety of switching between formats with WL and PL though. Keeps things fresh.

Yes but in WL, if a team has a strong ace they can rely on to clean up, the risk of losing the set is much lower than in proleague, where aces can only get you 1 + ace match (and you still NEED the other players on the team to score some wins to get to the ace match). As such, most teams can spare 1-2 slots for more dubious players (depending on the team and their opposing team of course).
I'm going to sleep, let me get some of that carpet.
