Indeed even if Blizzard gains a lot of information on the incident, deletion of all threads detailing it still limits the exposure of the incident to other forum readers who may not have been aware of it previously. One purpose of forums is to exchange information; actively inhibiting that makes forums ineffective in that respect.

I thought it was a good joke. I lolled IRL.

If I were blizzard, I'd delete them. It's not like the threads are actually going to have content. Blizzard already knows that they made a mistake and they'll do everything they can to avoid server failures in the future; there is no need to remind them. IMO blizzard has already made up their mind about forcing tournaments to go over bnet so...

I didn't miss the self deprecation. You were trying to say "my bad, I can play starcraft well but can't read a website, lol". The tragic part was the "mid-high" qualification. I don't think that was for comic effect, because it would detract from the "good but stupid" comparison you were trying to make. No, it was genuinely put in there because you didn't think "diamond" was strong enough, surely there are diamond players who are legitimately dumb enough to not find a thread on the main page (probably those low-high diamond or even the vastly inferior somewhat-high-medium diamond guys, those kids are garbage).
But this guy is mid-high. You have no excuse.

I don't think anybody can put it out of the realm of possibility that there's some DDoS going on here. This is the second major tournament (the other was a European tournament, if I remember correctly) that had server connectivity issues.

It's not something they can really get away with in this day and age. Blizzard usually gives up eventually. It really comes down to whether people are willing to risk getting banned in the process. The servers apparently went wonky and my account was unbanned, so I'm not taking any chances for the time being.

Oh god. Blizzard has locked literally the very last thread on this.

"Please post your concerns about LAN play in the 'eSports and Multiplayer' forum.
But you've deleted all the threads there.

It's incredibly lucky that there have not been more problems in MLG or GSL.
|
GSL is more sacred. Less likely to be under DDoS attacks
|
This is hilarious and identical to the deleting of threads EA did when they shit the bed on their EASHL patches and got rightfully hammered for it. awesome that this is the future of the consumer-publisher relationship in gaming.
|
I wonder why Blizzard feels so threatened by MLG...
|
i see no good reason for the no lan support, the only reasonable explanation is profit(pirating, which already exists for single player, even though it is unnecessary).
sc1 had lan support, required cdkey for online play and it was a huge success, leading to what blizzard is today(wow has bigger impact, i know).
there's absolutely no reason why sc2 can't have lan. single player can be played without logging in (as long as it has been connect to b.net before). same could be applied to LAN. its really sad to see they're doing this for every possible penny. region lock makes sense...this does not.
