Hey guys i made a post a while ago looking for a mouse...ive looked at the Deathadder, ikari, salmosa, and xai but im still not sure on which will be good for me...I dont really have experience buying things online and im going to be in college, so its going to be hard for me to return things over the internet...
Right now im using the Microsoft basic optical mouse...I love the dimensions of the the mouse located here:
![[image loading]](http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/images/products/bom/mk_productdetails_bom_blk.jpg)
My budget it less than 45$... Also i love this optical mouse in every way but i need an upgrade!
So any help would be awesome thank you again
btw i use a hybrid palm/claw grip

i definitely recommend against anything of LMO grade. You absolutely need something with a higher DPI to play SC2 effectively.

If you like the Microsoft optical mouse, then definitely get the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0. I also use a hybrid palm/claw grip and it is perfect. I have been using this mouse my entire life and I can't seem to find anything better. Microsoft in fact canceled the mouse and then brought it back due to high demand from gamers.
The best part? It's only $40. It does only have 450 DPI but the comfort makes such a difference for me.
If you like the Intellimouse shape but need something with higher DPI (if you are a high-sensitivity player) then try the Logitech MX518 - it's pretty similar. It costs a little more though.

lol wtf is a gaming mouse exactly?
the one you have right now is fine
you don't need a "gaming mouse," "right-handed mouse," "macro buttons," or "high DPI"
the only thing you need to consider is - is it accurate enough on slow speeds when enhance mouse precision is on? - is it fast enough on fast speeds when enhance mouse precision is on - is it big enough for your palm (just avoid really small mice) - weight - shape
basically, just avoid those small USB mice that are too small to control and way too sensitive to be accurate

you can literally go to a pawn shop or something and get a great old ball mouse for $3
no one will do this of course, but i'm just saying a mouse is the one thing you don't need to look to much into on a computer; as long as you can use it comfortably its a great mouse

It's good. I got it as a backup for my Salmosa. I like both mice but if you love your current mouse keep it. I had an optical mouse and I loved it, even played CS for 2 years with it. Only reason I upgraded was because I won a Salmosa, and then bought a Kinzu. Love both but I would not ave switched if I hadn't won the Salmosa first.

My friend tipped me off about refurbed Microsoft Habus (made by razer) on ebay selling for ~$10. I bought one and it works great. Only problem is that Habus were manufactured with a defect in the wiring so you have to either solder it or just open it up and bend the cord inside a little so there is contact. It's pretty good for the price lol.
oh yea it's a palm grip mouse

Wait, why do you need an upgrade? or did you just get bored of it

Hey Illusion, you playing sc2 these days? Also: Logitech G5 is a sweet mouse. Grab it up. Or really just go down to a store that displays the mice and get a feel for them. They might not have the selection you want but you can definitely find something that feels right.
|
I would strongly recommend against buying a new mouse because the one you currently have and love isn't a "gaming mouse." I used to use a pretty standard Microsoft optical mouse but then I thought exactly what you are thinking "I should get a gaming mouse." I knew most progamers were using Logitech Mini Optical at the time so I bought one of those. I played with it for a little while but didn't give it that much of a chance because it didn't feel quite right on my hand.
So then I went out and bought a Logitech G5 because I had a lot of recommendations for it and had heard lots of good things. Played with it some, thought it was ok, but I wasn't blown away by any means. After awhile I decided to give the Mini Optical another chance. It was during CSL and I was my teams' Ace player so I practiced a fair amount with it and whatnot. Ended up switching to a fingertip grip and I absolutely love my LMO now.
So I guess my point is even if the G5 is a "gaming mouse" and its good quality, that doesn't really mean much of anything. Sure I've heard the LMO supposedly isn't good for sc2 but that hasn't stopped me from reaching 1k+ without putting any real effort into sc2 so far.
Don't expect a gaming mouse to make you play better.

yes add me Illusion.403
miss you guys...
and the G5 looks pretty big...im looking for a mouse with common measurements to those of the mouse posted.
@Chaos Wow wow wow this was a perfect post, i have the same mindset as you, but honestly, ill never find out for myself if i never try it out. I mean i know its not going to make me a different player etc...but you never know how it feels till you try

Im also going to suggest the Logitech Mini Optical, its the best mouse I've ever owned.
"Gaming mice" are overrated in my opinion, using one won't improve your ability to play. Why spend all that money when a cheap mouse can be just as comfortable and effective?

I bought a Logitech M100 Optical mouse from Walmart for $10. Well worth it.

I used to have a Razer before, and I hated it. I had trouble finding a surface that worked with it because the mouse pad I had (and still have) didn't work with it. The software was really bad as well, and the left mouse button stopped working eventually. They might've improved their mice now, as this was a long time a go, but I'm going to avoid them for now at least. Before that, I used to have a Logitech MX500 and loved it, so I ended up getting an MX518 after the Razer broke and I still have it. It's so good. I've also tried a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 and really loved it too.
Also, a tip to anyone: get rid of mouse acceleration for any game if you haven't already. Just use a mouse pad that has enough surface. It might take a couple of days getting used to no acceleration, but it's worth it. No acceleration basically means there is one less variable deciding how the pointer reacts to a certain hand movement, thus helping your muscle memory "learn" a lot easier.

Do not buy an LMO if you are playing SC2 at 1680x1050 or up, the DPI isn't sufficient to run with acceptable sensitivity, especially with mouse acceleration off. I have had an LMO for about a year, it rocked for BW but it cannot handle SC2 at higher resolution, it is either very sluggish or it skips pixels.
buy a mouse with modern DPI

buy a mouse with modern DPI yea this might also be a problem since i play at max settings etc...

I would second the opinion of most here that said unless you have some problem with your current mouse, there's no real reason to get a new one.
That said, if you really want a gaming mouse with comparable dimensions, I just measured my Salmosa and came up with ~59mm wide x ~114mm long, so you should get a reasonably similar feel with it.

edit:
i think the kinzu is wining me over...its most like my old mouse, but with a diff sensor etc..ofc optical...

if anyone has any thoughts about it let me know or know a similar mouse from razer or logi

I have the Logitech g5 battlefield 2142 special edition, razer deathadder 3.5g, and intellimouse explorer 3.0. For FPS, the IMO 3.0 feels the most accurate but when playing sc2, my Death Adder feels more accurate. I'd recommend getting a razer abysuss(normal, not mirror) due to having the same sensor as the death adder 3.5g. It will be around the same size of the Razer Salmosa and will be very LIGHT. the g5, IMO3.0 and the DA are all big mice.
Weight - Heaviest --- Lightest DA > g5 > IMO3.0
I picked up the 3.0 a few months ago and it felt VERY light after having used the death adder for about a year. I've used the abyssus and it basically feels like your holding nothing. In reality, any gaming mouse will help you out but if you want the best i'd get the abyssus or if you got the money, wait for the sc2 gear from razer to come out.

That Kinzu looks pretty nice. One thing I personally would do and recommend would be to avoid looking at the really fancy specs and just look a the picture and the size specs. Any mouse you buy nowadays is going to be good enough in terms of all the dpi and whatever else they use now. $35 Kinzu does seem like a good way to go if you are set on changing though.

Microsoft Intellimouse explorer 3.0, look it up, try it out, you shouldn't be disappointed, its cheap (30 bucks on ebay, brand new) sturdy, last a long time, great friction, etc.

based on the information you have provided i reccomend the razer abyssus

I just got my LMO and it feels quite suitable even on 1680x1050...I just downloaded the driver software and adjusted my sensitivity through there and I think turned on mouse accel. Is that generally considered "bad?" I feel quite comfortable with my sensitivities and stuff in SC2 and feel like I play even better than with my G5 which has many DPI settings. My sensitivity can get quite high with the LMO after I tweaked it, so it feels just as fast as my G5 but doesn't make my hand cramp up after 2 games.

Totally agree with you on the Kinzu... to an extent. From the looks of OPs current mouse, the Kinzu shape would probably fit him. Too bad the Kinzu has the worst sensor known to man. I prefer its shape over every mouse I've tried, and unfortunately it's rotting away in my drawer as I type this. And before anyone mentions the Xai, imo sucks due to its increased size, weight and more importantly price ($120+ here in au$land).
Using the Abyssus now, not entirely happy with its shape but I love its weight and sensor.

I was tempted to buy a kinzu like 2 weeks ago when there was still a sale on them but yea, i heard about a horrible sensor to...Im leaning towards either steelseries or something not really razor just because their mice are so different im afraid i wont like them..
i wish there was a store near me where i could try out mice before i bought them or at least grip them >.>

yes it is considered bad, all progamers/good players in all games play with no mouse acceleration, it decreases accuracy. You will find that if you turn it off with the LMO you will either have to move to mouse ungodly distances to get across the screen or turn the sensitivity way up and it will begin to skip pixels.
What mouse drivers are you using? The LMO has no native drivers.

SetPoint Settings from Logitech. I'll try and increase the sensitivity without Mouse Accel but I dunno if it's possible based on what you said.
QQ though want a Logitech Mini 2.0 with DPI settings. I just like the size and shape... :{
Edit: Heres a pic of the SetPoint thingy, you can change the pointer speed without turning on accel.

You want enhanced mouse precision off too, right?

I would say who really cares what is "good" or "bad" about mouse settings. Honestly I don't know if I have acceleration on or off, but does it really matter? I'm not top 10 in the world competing in GSL for a cash prize. I play this game to have fun, and yes I do want to win at it, but the way to do that isn't by buying a new mouse or changing my current mouse settings. Its by actually getting better at the game.

Mouse acceleration makes your movements inconsistent. It's difficult to improve if the most basic element of your play is constantly dynamic. It's like practicing tennis with a different sized racket each time, or shooting hoops with a different ball.

this reminds me, i to have acceleration on in mouse settings for this mouse...It just dosnt move fast enough when playing starcraft
|
I have a razer deathadder (big £50-ish palm-grip right handed 5button monster that fuckin' glows blue and shit) which I bought in my competetive CoD2/4 days. However I don't really like it for starcraft as it feels much more suited to big sweepy movements as its hard to get any fingertip control. I have just purchased a Logitech Mini Optical for £8 (plus delivery) and I have yet to game with it but it feels much more precise.
in conclusion - many "gamer" mice are not that great for rts. most sc progamers use basic mice, try one - they're cheap.

im not interested at all in getting another 8$ mouse.

Hey Trevabob. Where did you order your Logitech Mini Optical from? I'm in the same boat (UK, FPS vet, think my Deathadder is too heavy for SC), but all the stockists for the Mini Optical looked a little dodgy.
Thanks in advance.

Doesn't it accelerate the same every time?
