Hey guys i made a post a while ago looking for a mouse...ive looked at the Deathadder, ikari, salmosa, and xai but im still not sure on which will be good for me...I dont really have experience buying things online and im going to be in college, so its going to be hard for me to return things over the internet...

Right now im using the Microsoft basic optical mouse...I love the dimensions of the the mouse located here:

I just bought a Logitech Mini Optical.... I am currently loving it. I previously used the Logitech G5 but it is quite heavy for mass gaming Starcraft 2, even without weights. Logitech stopped producing the Mini, but Target still sells them on their online store: http://www.target.com/Logitech-Mini-Optical-Mouse-930732-0403/dp/B00006HMPF

i definitely recommend against anything of LMO grade.
You absolutely need something with a higher DPI to play SC2 effectively.

You don't need a "gaming" mouse. Edit: Can't you just look at the dimensions of Razer mice? They're on the pages.

If you like the Microsoft optical mouse, then definitely get the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0. I also use a hybrid palm/claw grip and it is perfect. I have been using this mouse my entire life and I can't seem to find anything better. Microsoft in fact canceled the mouse and then brought it back due to high demand from gamers.

The best part? It's only $40. It does only have 450 DPI but the comfort makes such a difference for me.

If you like the Intellimouse shape but need something with higher DPI (if you are a high-sensitivity player) then try the Logitech MX518 - it's pretty similar. It costs a little more though.

lol wtf is a gaming mouse exactly?

the one you have right now is fine

you don't need a "gaming mouse," "right-handed mouse," "macro buttons," or "high DPI"

the only thing you need to consider is
- is it accurate enough on slow speeds when enhance mouse precision is on?
- is it fast enough on fast speeds when enhance mouse precision is on
- is it big enough for your palm (just avoid really small mice)
- weight
- shape

basically, just avoid those small USB mice that are too small to control and way too sensitive to be accurate

and

you can literally go to a pawn shop or something and get a great old ball mouse for $3

no one will do this of course, but i'm just saying a mouse is the one thing you don't need to look to much into on a computer; as long as you can use it comfortably its a great mouse

It's good. I got it as a backup for my Salmosa. I like both mice but if you love your current mouse keep it. I had an optical mouse and I loved it, even played CS for 2 years with it. Only reason I upgraded was because I won a Salmosa, and then bought a Kinzu. Love both but I would not ave switched if I hadn't won the Salmosa first.

My friend tipped me off about refurbed Microsoft Habus (made by razer) on ebay selling for ~$10. I bought one and it works great. Only problem is that Habus were manufactured with a defect in the wiring so you have to either solder it or just open it up and bend the cord inside a little so there is contact. It's pretty good for the price lol.

oh yea it's a palm grip mouse

Hey Illusion, you playing sc2 these days?
Also: Logitech G5 is a sweet mouse. Grab it up.
Or really just go down to a store that displays the mice and get a feel for them. They might not have the selection you want but you can definitely find something that feels right.

I would strongly recommend against buying a new mouse because the one you currently have and love isn't a "gaming mouse." I used to use a pretty standard Microsoft optical mouse but then I thought exactly what you are thinking "I should get a gaming mouse." I knew most progamers were using Logitech Mini Optical at the time so I bought one of those. I played with it for a little while but didn't give it that much of a chance because it didn't feel quite right on my hand.

So then I went out and bought a Logitech G5 because I had a lot of recommendations for it and had heard lots of good things. Played with it some, thought it was ok, but I wasn't blown away by any means. After awhile I decided to give the Mini Optical another chance. It was during CSL and I was my teams' Ace player so I practiced a fair amount with it and whatnot. Ended up switching to a fingertip grip and I absolutely love my LMO now.

So I guess my point is even if the G5 is a "gaming mouse" and its good quality, that doesn't really mean much of anything. Sure I've heard the LMO supposedly isn't good for sc2 but that hasn't stopped me from reaching 1k+ without putting any real effort into sc2 so far.

Don't expect a gaming mouse to make you play better.

yes add me Illusion.403

miss you guys...

and the G5 looks pretty big...im looking for a mouse with common measurements to those of the mouse posted.

@Chaos
Wow wow wow this was a perfect post, i have the same mindset as you, but honestly, ill never find out for myself if i never try it out. I mean i know its not going to make me a different player etc...but you never know how it feels till you try

Im also going to suggest the Logitech Mini Optical, its the best mouse I've ever owned.

"Gaming mice" are overrated in my opinion, using one won't improve your ability to play. Why spend all that money when a cheap mouse can be just as comfortable and effective?

I used to have a Razer before, and I hated it. I had trouble finding a surface that worked with it because the mouse pad I had (and still have) didn't work with it. The software was really bad as well, and the left mouse button stopped working eventually. They might've improved their mice now, as this was a long time a go, but I'm going to avoid them for now at least. Before that, I used to have a Logitech MX500 and loved it, so I ended up getting an MX518 after the Razer broke and I still have it. It's so good. I've also tried a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 and really loved it too.

Also, a tip to anyone: get rid of mouse acceleration for any game if you haven't already. Just use a mouse pad that has enough surface. It might take a couple of days getting used to no acceleration, but it's worth it. No acceleration basically means there is one less variable deciding how the pointer reacts to a certain hand movement, thus helping your muscle memory "learn" a lot easier.

Do not buy an LMO if you are playing SC2 at 1680x1050 or up, the DPI isn't sufficient to run with acceptable sensitivity, especially with mouse acceleration off. I have had an LMO for about a year, it rocked for BW but it cannot handle SC2 at higher resolution, it is either very sluggish or it skips pixels.

buy a mouse with modern DPI
In Hungry Hungry Hippos there are no such constraints—one can constantly attempt to collect marbles with one’s hippo, limited only by one’s hippo-levering capabilities.
