I would probably just quit SC2 today if I wasn't so invested in this community. I could settle with watching BW VoDs. Don't get me wrong SC2 is a good game, and it's fun at times too, but it just doesn't have the same quality or feeling to it. You shouldn't feel like you're forcing yourself to play a game, ever. I'm amazed and interested by the phenomena that is SC2. By the time that's worn off I might quit though.

Ideas is one of the few posters (probably more because I have a terrible memory) I recognize on a regular basis making good posts. I know there are a lot, but just so happens to be one I notice. Congratulations on 5k!

I dunno, I just don't get why so many people think SC2 is as great as they make it out to be. Even the recommended casted games just aren't that interesting to watch. I would love it if someone that genuinely thinks SC2 is a fun, dynamic game could explain why but every time I've asked people go into defensive "you just hate Blizzard" mode. I love Blizzard and I own all of their games (multiples of BW) plus I subscribed to WoW for 4 and a half years. If I hated Blizzard I would not have given them thousands of dollars of my money. I quit WoW recently because I did not like the direction it was taking and I was tired of patches that didn't deliver. I've already had that feeling in just the beta of SC2, it just felt half assed.

Don't worry too much about sc2. It seems like Korean progaming culture is a huge part of what you like about broodwar and that isn't going to move anywhere too fast.

I love BW and have played it for years I've never been big on posting on forums and still I am hesitant to. I feel like many of the Sc2 casters I see haven't played the game, they don't know what half the units do and what half the buildings are for. I think this will change over time and eventually progress. I've always been huge on competitive gaming, weather it was when i played 1.6 cal m or tried climbing iccup. I think much will come out of SC2 and can't really decide what it will bring to the future of gaming. I was disgusted with the beginning of beta, not in the game play, but in the community it brought out. Many players came from the ever trolling of azeroth (WoW) which is painful to see all the bm coincide in the game I love. I feel though that many of the bm WoW players will phase out of SC2 as it get's progressively harder. When everything starts to head to the refinement of BW. The subtle things that people miss in BW. SC2 has a long way to go before it can become a truly great game, but I feel like it's heading that way. From things like the recent threads about void phasing, to stalker blink micro. I think in the long run we will have a great game and hope for it to happen. Although blizzard ruined WoW making it too user friendly I have a feeling they wont be doing the same thing with SC2. ( just look at the recent hotfix of void phasing working for all charges.) All and all lets hope for the best and phase out the bad manor children.

As an unshamed SC2 only player, I see SC2 as an evolution from SC. SC was wicked during the past decade, but at the end of the day you gotta move on. Times change and all those hours spent on Broodwar were probly very enjoyable. Who knows? In time u may find SC2 has the same, maybe a better appeal? Congrats on 5k!!!!!!

If Chess 2.0 came out tomorrow but it wasn't as good and just had better looking, renamed pieces and even then it was more difficult to see what was going on would you say the same thing? Would you just say well we've gotta move on? When a new car comes out but your current car is better do you buy the new one just because it is new? I still think SC2 melee will go the way of WC3 but I would love to be proven wrong by the time both expansions are out. I just don't see it with the direction SC2 has taken.

o.o its almost eerie. Are you my twin? I'm getting the CE (hell it's Starcraft) but I will probably just play the Campaign then UMS until I get bored. ye....don't get me wrong, Starcraft 2 is still a fantastically designed game. It is blizzard after all. And its not like I've ignored every good game that wasn't an amazing "esport". But thats all it is. A good game. :/.

Very sad that casters have all switched to SC2... for some reason it just feels like they're being wasted there. SC2 doesn't seem to have the absolutely incredible depth that was crucial to BW's long success and constant evolution. Over a decade in, and the top BW stars are STILL creating incredible new strategies. Incredible. IMO (very biased opinion coming here), I just think SC2 is simply... easier to survive. In SC1, if you had the wrong strat, that was it, GG, complete elimination... UNLESS you pulled some beautiful magic micro out of your ass 1a2r8esc9esc0s etc, which made for the unforgettable moments, which give us the rush we feel when we say "how the shit did I just do that". in SC2, thanks to easier macro/better unit AI, it's just... nowhere as inspiring. I survived a (typical) protoss all-in, but I felt nothing. Meh. Boring. No sense of crushing defeat or exalted victory. Just... 1a. there's just some magic about BW that is lacking in SC2. it kinda feels like SC2 is WC3 in space. no offense to WC3 of course, loved the game for a while, but... its not STARCRAFT. Sigh. Rant over. back to work.

From 2002 - 2006 I was a part of the team behind Battlefield.no, imho the best online community for EA's Battlefield franchise in my country. For me BF1942 was the ultimate game, with a fantastic community and a depth in the gameplay I had never seen anywhere else. But then BF2 came along in 2005, and I found myself somewhat estranged by a game that was prettier but shallower, without the atmosphere of its precursor. Also, the community was bombarded with a huge influx of noobs, many of whom where bad mannered counter-strike shitkids, who did little to add value to the community. I tried my best to find an interest in BF2, but with the new reality of getting a job and moving together with my girlfiend, i kinda zoned out the whole thing in 2006. As someone said, you can never force yourself to play a game. There is a huge process of mourning involved in letting go of a game you have invested so much into, as well as seeing a community change, and as said I think i completely think I know how you feel. As a newcomer to this site I will say that this really is a fantastic community, well run and with so much stuff going on, that I think TL is perfectly positioned to be able to handle the new reality of SC2, without having to alienate its existing user. As for me, I am completely unashamed in having fallen in love with SC2 which I think is an excellent game, but I am going to try and show all respect to the longtime members of this site and do my utmost to be a constructive part of TL and the sc2 community as a whole. Whoa, wall of text. :s (This may turn into a blogpost of my own.)

I thought about making a similar, downtuned post about how disappointed I was about how SC2 turned out and express some of the same fears I have about where the community is going. I would've however come off too strong and excessively harsh regarding SC2 as is my style so I think it's better I just 5/5 this blog for endorsement and save myself a flame war.
