Lost to cloaked banshees in one control group followed by Vikings in a second control group.
What I learned: Terran doesn't have a very good way to detect clocked units. I've never been a fan of turrets because it takes at least two to do the job you need done. The Raven seems like a decent unit, I'll have to try to get those built in the future. I also learned that cloaked banshees are an easy build. I resolve to use it next time I play a Terran.
Placement match #4 TvP vs Tail on Scrap Station.
Last time I played toss I got owned in 7:36. I resolved to build a bunker. I didn't do it. Instead I built a second rax and put up enough rines early to stop entry into my base. Last time it was 4 zealots. This time it was just a probe followed by 1 single zealot. I should have sent out my own scout, but I didn't. I scanned his base at 10:19 and saw a building I didn't recognize. Did I click on it? no. That was a stupid mistake. At 12:10 six dark templar run right in my base while all my dudes stand around looking stoopid.
What did I learn: Again I lost as Terran to cloaked enemies. I need to build a missile turret near the ramp (behind the front line) to allow my rines to see DTs next time.
Placement match #5 TvT vs Ryna on Scrap Station
So I’m gonna see if I can do the cloaked banshee business that beat me in #3. I start the same way I have in all my matches thus far. I’m shooting for 10 Supply, 11 Rax, 13 Refinery. After that I build another Rax and a Bunker behind my minerals. I fill the bunker and put rines at the front ramp. At 7:30 I add a siege tank to the front ramp and start my Starport. I’m feeling pretty good, but I haven’t scouted at all. Finally at 10:33 I scanned his base – saw an assload of rines and nothing else. At 15:03 right as I’m about to send the banshees over, I see the assload of rines, now up to a double ass, along with three medivacs knocking on the front door. In defense is 12 rines, 2 marauders and a siege tank. The siege tank is the critical component! But once all my troops croak there’s still 18 marines pouring in the front attacking my raxs. I fly over 6 banshees and freeking lose two of them before I cloak *palm to forehead*. The banshees prevail and I feel like I’ve dodged a bullet. Of course, now, the cloaked banshee strategy is out of the bag, so I need to move fast! Fortunately, the bases are only like ten seconds apart on scrap station; I fly over and unload onto his SCVs, then his command center. He sends over four marines and scans. Instead of killing the marines I retreat?! What am I doing!? Long story short, I did win using nothing but cloaked banshees, but I should have won right then.
What did I learn: I would have won faster if I would have been a little cooler under pressure – nothing I can do to learn how to do that except play more games. I also should have had more troops on the front ramp, especially after I saw he was going mass–marine.
After 5 placement games my record is 1 win and 4 losses. I am placed in Copper, as I should be.
