I just finished my placement matches and am currently ranked in gold division 14, rank 23. I am not entirely sure how this happened, since my placement matches were all against bronze or unranked players, but I will assume the ranking system knows what it is doing, as far as it can based on 5 games worth of information at least.
My biggest concern is that I got here a bit unfairly. Every game I rushed early zealots. 3 of my games I won, 2 against zerg, 1 against protoss, doing just that. One game I won after switching to mass stalkers instead of zealots when I realized he had randomed Terran and was walled off, and the last game I lost because he went Void Ray rush and I didn't recognize the building.
Overall, I am kind of scared I am going to get curb stomped in the gold division. I more or less cheesed my way here, mostly due to lack of knowledge of how most the units work. I guess we will see what happens.
EDIT: Played another game before remembering to hit post on this. Got Void Ray rushed in PvP. I scouted late, saw the wall-off, then decided to expand anyways. Oh well. Rank 84 in my division.

well you can drop down a league so if you really think you don't belong in gold the game ideally will put you in the "correct" league, eventually.

Yeah, I kind of figure. I think I am going to hit silver pretty fast, since I am trying to branch out from
1) Build Zealots
2) Attack
3) Win/Lose

i know you you feel, the guy i played in my final game said "i dont really belong in gold" at the start of the game.
I got into plat by just reaper rushing a few times
but i'm alright with being placed higher, cause personally I enjoy the challange

Yeah, my beta experience:
Battlenet 2.0 can't handle the network load, drops me 2 out of 5 games, puts me in like #84 silver, so I have to grind 15 fucking games with proxy reaper to get back to gold and then probably 20 more games to get anywhere near top of gold where I was.

Can you move up a league? I lost 2 games by trying to play as terran in my evalutation games. Needless to say I got fucking raped by protoss rushes.

Yes you can, just keep posting consistent results and it will evaluate you at an interval and move you up, down or keep you in the same league.

based on my experience it is extremely easy to move up the ranks...all u gotta do is get #1 in ur div then win 3-4 more games straight...
getting #1 is easy too cuz they give you whole bunch of points for winning and deduct small amt for losing...
