So today has been the most stressful day of my continued existence to date. Last night my gf thought that she might be preggers because she was having mood swings and tender tits. Turns out she had her period today. Thank God for the menstrual cycle.

Why? If a woman doesn't want a child she can abort it or give it up for adoption. If he doesn't want the kid he is fucked. I'd rather be a pregnant woman than be a man with a pregnant girlfriend. He has 0 choice if she gets knocked up

lol mood swings and tender tits are signs of a period ~_~. If she was preggers then the tits wouldn't get tender for atleast a couple of missed periods.

But yes, all hail the period. Oh lordy is it always good to see the chick your fucking have one of those.

we talked about it last night. If she was pregnant she would want to put it up for adoption after birth. I would want the same depending how late into it she was.

you can always get a scrape-out man. maybe you have moral qualms about such things but don't let a fertilized egg ruin your life. I've got a few friends who inseminated girls and are now in loveless marriages full of self-loathing and guilt. The kids are pretty cute though.

This... always the worst. I had one gf in grad school that had a super regular cycle. One day off schedule and she'd be flipping the fuck out... then two days.. then three... And the worst thing I could ever say was that her stressing out was making it late.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who equates the sound of words such as "preggers" with the sound of nails on a chalkboard. I've only heard younger teenage girls use the term (when I was that age), and I realized how dumb that shit sounded then. Not trying to be a dick to the OP, and I can definitely feel your pain on the topic in which the thread is about, but shit, "preggers"?

Seems to be unnecessarily demeaning to call it a "scrape out". I don't understand the motivation for using that term.

I'd rather have a one day pregnancy scare than a whole month long of wondering whether or not she will get her period.

Little bit of a bump here but uh... as much of a supporter of abortion as I am, I certainly don't believe it is a respectable or happy thing.

I see abortions like bankruptcy. Necessary, but absolutely a last resort. Annoy the hell out of me women have a pill that is 99.7% effective in preventing pregnancy for 1 year yet they still either don't take them or "forget" or "take a couple late."

On the other hand I wouldn't want to dissuade women from having them (abortion).

TL;DR who cares if you call it a scrape out. Shes aborting a viable fetus lol. Women abandon responsibility and its offensive if you call it a scrape out. Men abandon responsibility and they are deadbeat loser scum selfish etc etc.

I have no intention of calling it a happy thing, and apparently not a lot of people care if you call it a scrape out. But for me, personally, I think you are ending a human life in an unnatural way. I think that occasion is not something that should be referred to so casually. It has nothing to do with the woman, but everything to do with the loss of life. It seems that should be worth more than crude slang.

i think this is exactly right.

moreover, to add to that, even if you don't think the fetus a person, there are still many important reasons why you should treat the situation with more respect.

But to some it isn't human life. (And now the 40 page thread BEGINS )

I'm in the "don't care" category, but I'm interested in your opinion. Do you find calling an abortion a "scrape-out" offensive the same way an African American might object to use of the word "nigger"? (Maybe not the same magnitude of offense, but I'm going to assume you understand my point). Do you object to the phrase or do you object to the process in general? If the latter is the case, I would think that all synonyms would be equally objectionable.

I am reacting to the term used. I am aware that abortions are part of society, and I am not willing to pass judgement on people who choose to do it, or choose to protest against it.

But, whether you think it is the loss of life or not, I think most people can agree it is an event that is not to be taken lightly. Because of that, I feel disappointed and somewhat sad that it can be refered to in such a callous manner. It doesn't make me angry (as the word nigger would if I were black) but hearing someone talk about an abortion that way just saddens me. It shows a... hardness that I don't think is necessary.

In the end, because (I assume) people would all agree that an abortion is a serious and somewhat sombre affair, we all believe there is a loss of some sort. Whether you believe that loss is actually a human life doesn't really matter to me. It is a loss, and it deserves more respect than "scrape out".
