Ok. I play as Z. I have hatcheries hotkeyed to 6-0 (I have large hands, so I can reach it comfortably, and I prefer to have 5 hotkeys for units). I had to restore my computer to factory settings last week (FUCK, did that ever suck; I seriously hate Vista), so I had to reinstall BW.
I went on to Blizzard's site and downloaded it (since I have submitted the CD key to them). I installed it, went onto battle.net to get the update, went to ICCUP, downloaded the launcher, ran it to install the Abyss gateway, and I figured I was good to go.
Now, so far, I haven't played any really long games, where I have 5 hatcheries pumping (I played a 4 hatch hydra game recently v P, but that only used 5-9). I just played a TvZ on battle.net (I didn't realize how impossible muta micro is without LAN Latency until just now), and it went into lategame, and that extra hotkey missing played a big part in my loss (I had a huge mid-game advantage when I slaughtered his first push with minimal losses, only to lapse in macro and have about 1.2k minerals saved up in a 20 minute game, and I know that hatchery kept having 3 larvae in it whenever I manually selected it).
So, it's getting really annoying. I've reinstalled it to see if it is just a screw up in the installation. Nope. I've tried running it with the Launcher and without. Same problem. I've tried googling to see if this issue has come up before. Nope. I've checked to see if it's my computer that's fucked up, but I can type a 0 in any other program/game (I've got DoW, WCIII, and a couple of others). They all work fine.
TL;DR - my 0 (zero) key does not work in SC, and only in SC.
So, any ideas?

Not that I am aware of..... I setup everything the same as last time.....
This is the 5th time I've had to restore this computer because of a Vista software error. It's been fine every time until now.....

i had that problem with vista. upgraded to 7 and everything fine =]

Really? I'm not the only one?
Fucking Microsoft..... I'm starting to think that they fucked Vista up on purpose so that everyone would buy 7 when it came out.....

Microsoft has a monopoly so it doesn't need to produce quality products. I can't think of an example of a company purposely putting faults into its product.
Edit: Bad grammar.

Logically speaking, the pharmaceutical companies would have the most reason to make faulty medications - they would force you to be on them longer, allowing them to make more money.
And, same with Microsoft. It's products are industry standardized in almost every field of work. If they make a crappy product that becomes industry standardized (which is a given), then any future product which shows promise will be jumped on..... More profit!

Medications take enough time and money to develop so that they have desired effect, and even then, medications have many side effects. It would be impractical to also try and add in some planned defect. Also, pharmaceutical companies have an extremely generous patent period. Bad press could destroy the company so the cost/benefit wouldn't be worth it. Pharmaceutical companies would rather spend their money lobbying and promoting their product to doctors.
Company's making crappy products suffer for it even if they are the industry standard. Standards can change, and will, if the product is bad. I think you're alluding to Vista and 7. Windows Vista did function fine and added many features. The problems that it had did not impact what most customers use it for. How many people (incl. companies) who bought Vista care if the 0 key doesn't work in StarCraft?
|
How many customers like having a 1.5 year old computer which had to be restored to factory settings 5 times due to their crappy product?
|
Doesn't ctrl-0 highlight/circle the cursor under default vista settings? But why that wouldn't work in other programs is beyond me.
|
Same here, and it pisses me off.
|
My 0 key works fine in SC and I use 64 bit Vista....
|
DON'T use Win7 if you want to play StarCraft without raging. All keys working fine for me with Vista 64bit. With Win7 tho.. nothing works.

That actually doesnt sound too far off... I mean think about it, we put out a product that MOST people will not like, then we drop this bombshell of a peach and everyone buys new computers with it or just upgrades...

Probably none. How many people does this happen to?

I don't have that as a shortcut.....
This is both really annoying and really confusing.....I pretty much always use every hotkey in the late game...
