I never blogged on TL before (or anywhere apart from a few poker-related entries at LP.net), but I think I'll dedicate this to the matches I play each week / 2 weeks. Sometimes with a really short (and by no means expert) analysis if I have the time (not this time though, sadly ).
Incidentally, my opponent for today was also a young guy (~24 iirc) whom I knew from wayyy back, actually he used to be a part of the chess club I still play for (Barcza Gedeon SC if anyone cares). You know, one of those guys who were somewhat good as a youth (top10 of their age group) but never got anywhere 'cause he didn't put in enough effort. Just like me
Let me know if enough people care about this or I'm just clogging up space here!
Anyway, without further ado, the match, get your chess-tables / programs ready:
Budapest Team Championship, Class 1/A.
Láng Vasas SC II. - Barcza Gedeon SC II.
Round 5
Table 5
White: Gergely Biro (ELO: 2084) (this would be me)
Black: Viktor Hudecz (ELO: 2188)
1. e4 c5
2. Nf3 e6
3. d4 cxd4
4. Nxd4 a6
5. Bd3 Bc5
6. Nb3 Be7
7. c4 Nc6
8. 0-0 Bf6
9. Nc3 Nge7
10. f4 d6
(tbh I was sure he'd move 10. - Bxc3 11. bxc3 d5 which would be black's essential plan in this position here. I would like to expand this line but I think my on-table analysis is insufficient for that and I don't have the time to do much more now )
11. Be3 Bxc3?! (not sure if this is fine...why now I have no means of forcing him to do this, and I really like this exchange)
12. bxc3 d5? (this is just bad, you'll see why)
13. exd5 exd5
14. Bc5! (imho at least the advantage in development will overwhelm black pretty fast as his position crumbles)
14. - dxc4 (for example, 14. - 0-0? 15. cxd5 Qxd5 16. Bxh7+ Kxh7 17. Qxd5 Nxd5 18. Bxf8 +- . The following line isn't really better though, just takes a little longer to find)
15. Bxc4 0-0
16. Re1 Qxd1 (16. - Re8 loses to the obvious Qxd8 'cause the e7 Knight will fall regardless whatever black takes the Queen with)
17. Raxd1 Bg4 (I must admit I miscalculated this, I thought 18. Rd3 seals the deal because Re3 is imminent, but 18. - b5! would save black [19. Bxb5 {19. Bd5 Nxd5 and black has no problems} or {19. Bxe7 Nxe7 20. Rxe7 bxc4 isn't auto-loss either} 19. - axb5 20. Bxe7 Nxe7 21. Rxe7 Rxa2 and again, my advantage is almost gone. However, I was sure there has to be something, so I started to think about what to move instead of 18. Rd3)
18. Rd2! (in the aforementioned variation, I now save the a2 pawn which is a definite advantage. However, that's not all!)
18. - b5
19. Be2! (I was actually thinking about 18. Be2 instead of Rd2 but the b pawn being on b5 instead of b7 makes a fundamental difference in the position, and my rook also improved [being on d2 that is]. 18. Be2 Be6 would save black a few casualties, although I'm almost certain that would've worked too - this however is a lot better)
19. - Be6
20. Bf3 Rac8 (nothing can save black here from losing a Rook for a Bishop. Check it out yourselves if you don't believe me I guess no further analysis is required, I'll just show how the game went on)
21. Bxc6 Nxc6
22. Bxf8 Kxf8
23. Nc5 Nb8
24. Nxe6+ fxe6
25. Rd6 Kf7
26. Re3 Rc6
27. Rd8 Rb6
28. Red3 Ke7
29. Rg8 Kf7
30. Rc8 a5
31. Rdd8 Na6
32. Rd7+ Kf6
33. Rf8+ Kg6
34. Rg8 Nc5
35. Rgxg7+ Kh6
36. Rxh7+ Kg6
37. Rdg7+ Kf6
38. g4 Ne4
39. Rf7+ Kg6
40. h4 1-0 and black resigns because h5 will seal the deal.
Thanks for reading through all this, let me know what you think!
Edit: Heh, can't help myself, ended up analyzing this afterall >.< too happy with winning a game it seems
