Well, I decided to become a professional poker player like my father ever since last year when I graduated from highschool.
I played at a steady 5-10 fixed limit hold'em and ran 5k that my dad provided for me up to 13k after a school year of playing. When summer came, my dad said I should player higher so I jumped to 50-100 FL and I lost my whole bankroll quite fast. My dad said I should quit poker and just focus on school since I lacked the talents.
About 2 months ago, I deposited about 600 dollars into my fulltilt account, but I haven't been playing much due to school work.
I'm bearly beating the super low stakes 25-50c nl holdem game, and my roll is pretty much still 600 dollarish. There seems to be a bunch of holes in my NL game, but I'm improving none the less. It just seems impossible to grind back to a decent bankroll size because the rakes are extremely high in the low stakes games.
It is obvious that I need to be a better player in order to beat the games more convincingly, but it seems that I am at a complete lost of what to do in this regard. It is just quite hard to improve when you're not a genius.
There are two types of poker players in this world; the winners, and the losers. It is clear that a lot of people need to be losers in order for there to be a winner. Maybe I am just fated to be a loser at poker.
Anyways, maybe time to look for a new profession.

Those "make a living from poker stories" are a scam. It's impossible to win money when they rake 10% of the pot in micro tables. I lost my free $50 dollar bankroll hella quickly.

Good thing you're Isaac Newton, one of the greatest geniuses of all time. It should be easy to improve. But seriously, can't you just have your dad coach you or something?.. I mean if he can make a living out of it you surely can if you just learn from him.

yeah they rake like 10% at the micro tables, but I think when you move up it becomes more negligible. for example at party poker (where I play) the rake is 10% at NL10 but it becomes 1% at NL25. so obviously playing at NL25 is much better if you have the skill and bankroll for it.

if your dad is a poker pro, why are you asking us?
thats like having flash as your brother and looking for terran advice in the strat forum.

I actually agree with you here.
I don't know the exact statistics but most people in poker lose money. I'll assume about 3-5% winners, 5-10% about even, and the 85-92% end it losing money. The poker industry did a pretty good job advertising the "professional poker player scam." Everyone wants to be the next Tom Dwan but they don't realize that it is impossible because in order for someone to win, someone else must lose.
It is quite depressing when you think about it; life and poker are both zero sum games.
