Well it looks like I reached my goal for the season, a shiny yellow C-, after playing seriously since May. (thank god for 4 TvTs in a row, since that matchup for me is miles ahead of my others). But, it's time for me to move on with my life.

I don't even want to know how much time I've wasted on games each week since the beginning of the semester, I just want to move on with my life and point it in a new direction. For me, gaming is just an escape from reality, and doesn't really serve me positively in any way. If I want to live a life I can be proud of, I have to stop. And hence, I'm going to quit ICCup indefinitely, probably forever (although I still plan on playing in CSL).

Also, I should be more honest with myself. I'm not triple majoring because I love music, I'm doing it in order to compensate for being a lousy scientist, to have an excuse for not doing as well as my peers. If I spread myself too thin, I don't have to be so good at any one thing; but that's not how I want to go about my life. Now that I have admitted it, I think I can do better, even if I continue with music.

Bio test on Wednesday, I need to ace it so I can ask the prof if I can work in her lab for next semester + the following summer :D.

Yeah these past ~5 months have sucked for me, but complaining about it isn't going to get anywhere. Time to pick up the pieces and be good at life again.

I should try Iccup one day... Too bad I never bothered to remember build orders by heart. If the game just revolved around micro and macro(Old Schoool!), I would probably do fine.

edit: Games help relieve stress and triple majors!?! I have trouble trying to get through 1 major at times.

The meaning of life is to be happy. Playing games makes me happy .

It appears you've found what makes you happy though (time having fun is never time wasted) and wish you luck with your future

not depressing; I feel like I'm more alive than I've been since June

my summer was pretty depressing; I did nothing other than rockclimb and play starcraft all day. I had no motivation, stuff just didn't matter to me anymore. I think I'm better off than I was then

ooooooooh don't tempt me like that :D

I'll probably play through the campaign, play a little 1v1s and then just play for CSL

right. But I think I've gotten past the point where playing games makes me happy, now it's just a way to fill up time and forget about my responsibilities, not something I truly enjoy.

its typical for people to say stuff like "i never really liked it anyway.. it hasn't got me anywhere.. it was a big waste of time.." etc after they quit something. its fine if you stop playing, but suddenly changing your viewpoint of something you liked for a long time doesnt make any sense.

I'm glad for you! I reached C- in the summer before sophomore yr of college, and then I made pretty much the same decision: If I want to have a life I can't keep playing iCCup so much. =p

Haha I know what you're going through, it's a state of re-discovering yourself, just spending some alone time to figure out who you are and what you want, obviously you can't do that 24/7 and SC is a nice break to get your mind off things.

But remember you'll always have SC to come back to and when you play don't remember it as time wasted but as a memorable and enjoyable past time ;D

Good luck to all your future plans, seems like you have taken the first step and realized that you need to change some things to get to where you want to be.

I salute you for making some brave decisions and recognising your own shortcomings, it's unbelieving hard and I wish you the very best of luck ^_^!

I could not use my time well at all, sc was too hard/addicting and I couldn't stop and only by quitting it cold turkey was the way to save myself

?

Well it's kind of a douche thing to do to bail out on your team like that.

How many "Im quitting forever!!!!!" posts do you see? Many players stop playing competitively and on iCCup because of the stress induced and the time needed to have put into it to get to where you want to be. Often players will still play for fun, and if not, like I said, it's not very well mannered to just bail out of a team league like that.

Don't you think you'll be hurting your CSL team by playing by not practicing? If you like CSL enough you should stick around and practice for it :D (i dunno how good your csl team is so this may not apply)

to be honest it's a really complicated thing that I don't think I'd be able to explain to save 2 people who know me really well. It's not so much about the time consumption, really.

Well, after chatting with you a bit before last night's match this makes me a little sad... I hope that you don't give up playing iCCup completely (to the extent that it's one of the best ways to play if you don't have a fair amount of real life SC friends) and that this is mostly an issue of time management and prioritization. But really, you're the one most qualified to speak and you gotta go what you gotta do. I just think that it really is possible to strike a good balance between SC and the rest of your life. If you don't enjoy playing the game, then that's a different matter altogether.

just 2-3 hours daily? That's quite a bit, and even so, just because one person is that good at SC for that length of time played, it doesnt mean everyone can get good easily.

Hell, I've been playing competitively for 2 years and I'm still C-.

This week in one of my classes, we were talking about fractals, and somehow the professor came out and said something along the lines of "sometimes, people don't realize they're just not good at something. Everyone is a genius at something, so stop wasting time on doing something you're not good at".

I think that could be applied to your science and starcraft thoughts. I don't mean to be depressing, it can be quite optimistic if take it the right way.
