Deus Ex: Best FPS/rpg hybrid. Old engine but good gameplay and great story with multiple climax. Baldur's Gate 1 and 2: Perfect balance between a great story and really challenging fights. Really LONG game. It is an epic saga. Planescape Torment: fights sucks but it is all about dialogs, universe and story. Probably the most original and best written game ever made. However if you are a D2 fan i doubt you will enjoy those. Brain is needed :p edit: i see you like SS2 then you MUST play Dx :p They share a lot of gameplay similarities but Dx isn't a survival horror and is not scary ( + it has dialogs, etc ) edit: Bioshock is beautiful but it has too few really interesting moments. Most of the "missions" are lame. It is a bit like SS2 but not scary and without a real inventory ![]()

Not to mention, HK-47 was even written better by Obsidian in KOTOR2. Also, for the people who don't know, a restoration mod is available now (and not by the hopeless TG btw). Link please! I've been searching for so long...

I only ever saw HK-47 in kotor2, so that's probably why I like it so much. Still, + Show Spoiler + he had to die, death by viroblade!

Andre (Gretorp) is coming from that area I believe, I dunno how he's coming though. U should still check the thread http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=103171 It's moot anyways, I just found out I have an orchestra concert I have to perform in that weekend :\ Sorry I'll be down for thanksgiving through the saturday after thanksgiving tho if u wanna hang out

It had a nice story story buttload of side quests, lots of possibilities to build your character. but i think you could ruin the game for yourself if you just went berserk and killed anything that moved. but great game. The combat engine for Arcanum is also imbalanced as all hell (a few of the first level spells are absurdly powerful--1st level harm can carry you through a large portion of the game). It has a well developed world, but if you play it for the combat, you're going to be disappointed. The world is amazing though. There's no internal conflict in KotOR 1. Yes there's the plot twist, but honestly? That doesn't change anything. 90% of people I've talked to didn't suddenly "go evil" or "go good" with that knowledge, and for good reason: it's entirely implausible. As interesting as the plot twist for your main character is, there is no conflict to make your character deeper. By contrast, the Exile is a much deeper character. The story is centered around him/her trying to escape the predestination of the Force, but at the same time, realizing the fact that without it, he is powerful. There's much deeper character development in there, and actually looks at the traditional themes of the Star Wars Universe in a new way (e.g. what happens when someone who has lived his life bound to the force tries to escape its destiny), as opposed to just mining the cliches, which is precisely what KotOR 1 does. As far as the NPCs go, the KotOR 1 NPCs are interesting until you realize that HK is literally the only original one of them: KotOR 1: Jolee - I have less problems with Jolee than a lot of the other NPCs. Sure, he's Jan Jansen, but he's got a fresh batch of jokes, and he comes across generally different. Mission - The bratty, prankster, younger sister type. Almost a carbon copy of Imoen. Zaalbar - Big furball connected to the wild who you find locked in a jail and is gets involved in issues of ruling/succession? Sounds like Cernd. Canderous - The guy with 1000 war stories. At odds with the "knight in shining armor", banters well with less serious types. See Korgan. T3 - I really don't need to go into why T3 is mining the cliches. Carth - IMO the worst written character in the game. As a male protagonist, he's merely annoying. As a female protagonist, the romance dialogue is just absurd. The "knight in shining armor" routine doesn't work, and his lines look like something from a silly high school date movie. You'd think that a character that was married before would have some knowledge of how to deal with women. Anomen from BG2 is the obvious parallel. Bastila - Carth's female equivalent. She acts strong and tough, and then melts in the male protagonist's arms. Predictable, unrealistic, and arguably sexist. Takes from the worst elements of Aerie, Jaheira, and Viconia. Juhani - The person you saved/redeemed, and now follows you around unquestioningly. Basically Viconia without the romance elements. Like I said, Baldur's Gate in space. Add that the dialogue and banter in BG was generally more interesting, and it gets pretty dry. Not all of KotOR 2's characters are groundbreaking, but a lot of them explore more interesting ground. Kreia is basically the manifestation of the Exile's issues with the Force. Canderous and HK are holdovers from KotOR 1, but they're more well-written in KotOR 2, and their origins are explored. Finding out something about them that matters beats hearing random stories in KotOR 1 that have no connection to you. And Visas and Mira both break the fairly sexist interpretation of female characters present in KotOR 1. They're deeper characters than Mission/Bastila/Juhani, which are frankly quite silly.
