As for RTS - DoW1 is very nice game, Supreme Commander is quite fun (esp. if you loved Total Annihilation, but don't mention it to SupCom fans cause they will flame you about "them having nothing in common" etcetc.), esp if you have friend/s with whom you can play via LAN. Also i just LOVE Warlords BattleCry series - it's RTS with RPG elements (you have hero who carries over with every scenario/skirmish/multi battle), really very climatic game but under-appreciated. Latest one is WBC3

Yah I'm looking at Nexus and Star Wolves now. I think I'll have to dl one of them when I get home. Toyota: I played through fallout 2 and 3, but never the first one. Fallout 2 was fun, but not really my kind of game. Fallout 3 was loads of fun, but my poor computer really struggled to run it. And it was kinda repetitive. Find enemy -> enter VATS mode -> headshot headshot headshot -> dodge until ur VATS is recharged -> repeat from step 1. However, watching enemies heads asplode or limbs get mangled somehow never got old, which amazed me. I actually stole Orb's xbox, and have been playing halo 2 and bioshock. I cant' stand bioshock on the xbox, cause for some reason I can't aim for crap, and it can't run on my compy t.t; I tried Oblivion but it felt too much like playing WoW without anyone else online... I've never tried the Baldur's Gate games. I might have to look into those, as I've certainly heard of them before. I'm open to trying other genres I suppose. As far as FPS games go, I have been playing a lot of ODST at my boyfriend's place lately, but I can't really be bothered to buy it for myself. For FPS on the computer, I LOVE Natural Selection, (best halflife mod EVER), but finding a solid server full of competent non-hackers is kinda tricky. Especially since the I-AM clan shut down their NS team t.t; I would love a FPS/RPG hybrid. That was basically why I liked hellgate, even though the game was pretty bad. (I was in the beta, and it was soooooo far from complete I knew it would be doomed to fail from the start, but oh wells) Orb: My computer can't really run CS:S at a framerate high enough to make me not a total noob. CS is boring to me. I'm looking for some single player games atm -.-; Also if you don't make it to the Nov 7th lan, I hate you.

Definitely don't try the Gothic series unless you like serious and millions of bugs and games where you get the same 15 FPS regardless of graphics settings on a system that can run Crysis in twice as high FPS. Neverwinter Nights 2 is a pretty good RPG, if you got some friends to play through the campaign. KOTOR has outdated graphics by now but is a darn good RPG, however try the first game first and not the second since it's much worse.

Diablo II was a piece of shit. Anything by Bioware and Bethesda is good for RPGs. Avoid anything from Obsidian. If you can stomach the graphics and horrible interfaces, go ahead and play the old school Black Isle games like Fallout and Planescape. The Witcher is another decent option. It lacks polish, but it's still fun. (If you noticed the pun in that last sentence before reading this, let me know.) If you're enjoying System Shock 2, it'd be a shame if you didn't play the spiritual successor, BioShock, one of the best games in recent memory. The original Deus Ex is the best game ever made. The sequel is atrocious. Borderlands sounds like it might appeal to you. All of these games are RPG-FPS hybrids, some more than others. The only RTS in the entire world that's worth playing is Halo Wars, so I won't comment on the sad state of the PC RTS genre.

Lets look at their records: Bioware: KotOR 1: Good, but a BG clone in space; unimaginative. NWN: Good as a toolset, pretty substandard as a game. Mass Effect: Opinions range from amazing to subpar. My best evaluation is that it's a nice game, but a terrible RPG. (I'm not including BG, because that was before the breakup of Black Isle) Bethesda: Morrowind: Good world, average plot and characters. Pretty decent. Oblivion: Daggerfall with shiny graphics. Good if you haven't played Daggerfall, extremely disappointing if you have. Fallout: Average plot and characters, decent world, but breaks suspension of disbelief much more than Morrowind. Decent but not amazing. Obsidian: KotOR 2: Unpolished, but much better developed story elements than KotOR 1. Introduces more morally ambiguous decisions (rather than the boring black/white of the first KotOR), and deeper characters (read: not carbon copies of BG NPCs, like KotOR 1). Lacks polish, but makes up for it with a generally deeper experience. NWN2: Base game is slightly better than NWN1. Storm of Zehir explores interesting mechanics. Mask of the Betrayer is arguably the best-written RPG since Planescape, with an engaging plot and imaginative characters that break your traditional cliches. I could understand saying Bethesda and Bioware are good (though I myself have been disappointed with their games since BG/Morrowind). I don't get how you can say Obsidian is bad.

KotOR 2 has the worst ending I've ever seen in any game and I've seen bad ones. The story in KotOR is superior, especially the end where you can make decisive decisions and do things you can't do in most other games (if you played the evil side, you know what I'm talking about...). Plus it has a unique plot twist that will shock you badass style. In KotOR 2, you can guess how things will turn out already from the start. I'm not saying the story in KotOR 2 is bad though. The ending just destroyed any good feeling I had about it and lots of things are taken from the original game. Btw, I found the characters nowhere as good as in the first game. HK-47 was in the second game, but I never even got to see him. He would at least have saved the rest of the cast...

The Patrician series may be nice, so may Alpha Centauri/Alien Crossfire. I'm not a big fan of the Anno series, but many are.

I kind of tried to use Vassal then realized I am far, far, far too lazy to actually go through the whole setup process haha I might have a librarium account, I'm not sure, but I don't post there. I have to strongly agree. Kotor2 was so much better, deeper, darker then the original. I cared about the charaters and what they had to say, and more importantly I belived there was real reason they were talking - whereas kotor1 was like "mandatory bioware dialogue goes here". I wanted to slap Carth silly everyime he opened his stupid mouth. Infact the only character worth listening to was that evil robot. Im articulating this really poorly but I really dont get why people bash Obsidian. They are so much closer to Black Isle then Bioware ever will be. Really looking forwared to Alpha Protocol.
