Who's your bet for the Golden Glove, people? That depends on who you think top keepers are....for instance for me mendy and nutmeg courtois should not be in such a list (yeah yeah I know he won an award bla bla bla, those are no longer about player performance but about what team are you on and what did the team win). But on the general sentiment I agree, no stand out GK so far in the tournament I think.
Yes, it's hard to judge keepers. And I personally haven't seen all 32 first choice keepers in action. There's a natural bias toward keepers playing in top European clubs. But based on flashes of club and international football that I've watched in recent years, some underrated top keepers that come to mind are Martinez of Argentina and Sommer of Switzerland.
One of the funny parts of the Netherlands team is that LVG hasn't even quite figured out who the first choice keeper should be. I've a feeling one keeper is being included just as a penalty specialist (just like WC 2014).

Szczesny has been great so far.

Oh yes, he's criminally underrated as well. I think he tends to get a bad rep due to his early years at Arsenal.

One of my pet theories of why we don't really see many classic shot-stopper juggernauts like in the good old days (Kahn, Buffon, etc) is due to top clubs preferring the new gen sweeper-keepers that can play the ball from the back (Allison, Neuer, etc).

I do think Courtois is that kind of GK. He made a mistake vs Morocco but was solid vs Canada (he has such great range that he can make difficult saves look like easy saves), and has been fantastic in the old school shot-stopper role for RM, and also in earlier championships. A GK making a big error is likely to make them not deserve 'goalie of the tournament' (needs a bunch of exceptional performances to make up for that), but I personally still consider Courtois #1 gk in the world, imo, RM would not have won last season's champions league if they had any other goalie.

de gea being left out of the squad is a prime example of the shot stopper falling out of favour for keepers that can apparently distribute the ball well. and i say apparently because i dont actually think many gk's can do that well

I think it's kind a funny that Germany's #2 Keeper is head and shoulders above most countries #1 and IMO if not for past services I personally would put Ter Stegen above Neuer. Neuer in the past had this aura about him that if an attacker can't plant his shot perfectly, don't bother shooting at all. This aura is gone

You're not alone, Harris. For many years, I've also felt that Ter Stergen is a much better shot-stopper than Neuer. It's somewhat unfortunate that he doesn't play for a club like Bayern with an all-round great defensive shield.
I still consider Courtois as the world's top 3 goalkeeper. But he should really stop the nutmegging and just focus on shot-stopping...

Wow an unexpected thriller for the early afternoon game!
So many momentum swings in this WC. The amount of 2-goals scored in quick succession must set some record. I really don't recall any major competition (what more the WC) having so many momentum swings. Not just the goals themselves, but also the shifts in advantage in terms of performance from one team to another.

This is just the 2nd match that has 3 more or goals for the 1pm time slot

Serbia is once again a really bad team at a tournament. Cameroon was so unlucky

I'm reading that Andre Onana (Cameroon gk) was benched because he refused to listen to the manager, mentioned was a refusal to play long balls. Didn't watch the game but the replacement conceded 3.

Ghana goes for the 100%. 2 of 2 found the net lol

Just mind-boggling again how a team fires 2 quick goals against the run of play.

Nice comeback in a couple of minutes

Korea just did a zerg rush

Pity those betting addicts for this WC. Not good for their heart.
