whatever; personally he seemed quite civil enough I'd have been inclined to cut him a bit more slack. give him a chance to admit he's wrong when presented with the evidence. it's possible he's simply very poorly informed.
not that I'd have high hopes; people who start with fact sets like that, things rarely go well.

The GH/Jimmi thing just spiralled the way it always does when someone strongly disagrees with GH. Sooner or later he starts on accusations that are true (or not) or aggressive (or not), and sometimes, he ends up arguing with someone who can't take it and retaliates in kind. It's a pattern he repeats regularly with posters from me to Zlefin to Plansix to Danglars to Xdaunt etc. etc.

Jimmi also got dogpiled a bit and responded very poorly to it. But the assumption of his whiteness seemed to be when the gloves came off on his side, and led to the racism he threw back at GH.

My take is:

GreenHorizons asked " In what measurable ways has the gap between white and Black people closed since the 60's?" in this post, in the context of a conversation with Kwark among others. Given his track history several people in the thread expressed the opinion (in as many words) that this question and his subsequent behaviour was deliberate bait for GH to snipe at whoever tried to answer it, rather than a prelude to a reasonable discussion.
JimmiC replies with some statement about Obama and "Your soap box is getting very tippy".
GreenHorizons replies with pure vitriol.
JimmiC replies with some more nastiness and "instead of me doing work and then you claiming its propaganda, how about you do some work".
From that point onwards they're largely talking at cross purposes, although I will say Jimmi ponied up with a substantive post well before GH did.

I don't think JimmiC's examples precisely addressed the question of the gap, as opposed to increase in general conditions, but I think they addressed it to some degree.

tl;dr: Jimmi fired the first shot that I can see. On the other hand the entire thing could have been avoided if GH had sourced his original statement instead of spoiling for a fight, or if GH had shown the slightest interest in deescalation. The crack from GH referring to Jimmi's self-identification as "the whitest thing you could have said" was a pretty significant escalation IMO.

As for their actual points, as far as I know Jimmi agreed with a fair bit of GreenHorizons' overall argument but thought the claim about the 60s was an overreach, and that eliminating or clarifying it would strengthen the overall argument. He did approach it pretty cackhanded, seemingly out of previous frusturation with GH.

To be fair, JimmyC has been finding every single post GH makes and starting an argument about it. The first time I saw it they were talking about Chavez and Venezuela. Jimmy decided GH is a communist and needs showing up, and GH responded in his own way.
Ever since then JimmyC has been sniping his posts.
That's what it looks like to me anyway.

No I think Latin/American, but I don't know if it was confirmed for sure. I'm guessing he's not vanilla white given how angry he got over the comment.

This is probably the first time I've given off an immature reaction. And that's only because I didn't appreciate GH's immature tone that he took up with me in the first place.

Show me any response I gave that can be seen as immature other than what just happened today. I am a fair moderator who always listens to what everyone has to say and try to give as much detailed responses as possible.

If you want, I can be like most other mods and just not give a fuck about your feedback and comments and just tell you that my word is final. I can also just ignore your PMs and questions entirely and just leave you hanging. But I don't do that because I am a good moderator. Say you what you want about me all you want, but I know for a fact that I am a good mod. And just because I do things that don't seem favorable to you or your political side, doesn't mean that I'm a bad mod.

Also, I have an inability to take criticism with maturity? Every single time a mod action of mine gets brought into question, I address what everyone has to say and accept it completely when I realize that I did something wrong or incorrectly. I'm not sure where you're getting this idea that I can't accept criticism because I sure as hell haven't been giving off that kind of vibe.

I think the silent majority believe that you do fine, probably more than most since you actually engage with people and discuss your decisions

iirc polls often get more people answering than are otherwise active in the thread. not sure about optimal settings to use; requiring logins is better for authentication, but idunno what the overall user base is like and how many people just read.

we can all see what the numbers are, so what do we consider them to mean, if anything?
do we take them as an overall endorsement of quality? it certainly looks like a decent enough overall result.
I note that very few people chose slightly approve/disapprove; I forget the statistical term equivalent to polarisation, but that seemed to apply here.
we lack any baseline result to compare to, at least that I'm aware of. are there any other polls in TL past that could serve as a basis?

edit: oh, and now the number's are changing because more people are seeing the poll and taking a choice, that makes it more confusing.
