Hey TL, what's up?
A little about myself. I'm a 15 year old male living in the US who loves Starcraft. I'm Chinese. I got involved with TL because I saw SC2, saw it was awesome and then somehow I ended up here. When I got to TL, I was thinking "Holy shit, these people think just like me!". Lurked for a few months, created an account. TL, so far is AMAZING. The user streams (I really admire the skill of these players, especially the BW players), the TL pro team, and the friendliness and maturity of the site in general are some of the things that I really like about TL. I think I'll stay here.
I just started playing BW. I like watching Starcraft, I really do. The TSL3 was fucking awesome (gogo ThorZain!!!), and so are all the other SC tournaments. I want to play BW because it looks harder than SC2 (also I don't have a copy of SC2), and because of this vid:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jen46qkZVNI . It's Boxer doing his perfect SCV rush. I tried it against a computer and failed miserably.
So I downloaded iCCup and started to play. I got raped in the first game I played. Bad everything. But it will get better. BTW, I play Terran. Boxer's my hero ^^. I looked at Liquipedia and I'm a bit confused about playing Terran. Is BW like SC2 where you can make a shitton of units and just 1A, or do you have to do better than that? I'm going to get one build down pat (I have no idea which) per matchup, and use that build, and then just improve my macro. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
TLDR: TL.net is amazing, I feel like I really belong here.

Umm, yeah. You have to do a LOT more than that!
BW terran mechanics take a lot of time and practice to make passable. The learning curve on iccup isn't as steep as it used to be, but don't expect to crawl out of D-/D for a while (less than 33% win ratio). You've got the right attitude with practicing one build and getting it down, but you also need to play a lot so you get a feel for how others respond to your strategy. I can't speak for all the matchups, but I played zerg on iccup and mostly encountered 2 rax pressure, 1 rax FE, or a mech build.
By the by, terran is NOT the 1a race. That would be Protoss ^^. Besides, you only have 12 units/hotkey, so the joke goes that toss can 1a2a3a itself into C-. Terran, on the other hand, will almost never beat a practiced player by attack-moving into an army - you need to play smarter than that!
As for getting started, there is an article by Ver called "How to Improve" that's a GREAT resource for any race, but the article specifically focuses on terran. Liquipedia also has plenty of games linked to each build, so watch a few of them to get a feel for what to expect, transitions, and flow. Otherwise, happy practicing!

Yes, Mister yes! Don't miss out the LR threads in the tourneys section. Soon you will see yourself turning gay for a proteam. Don't worry, it has happened to every(cool)one here.
And don't forget the greatest thread of all! When you see it, you will have found the purpose of life. So, young student, go and find it in the depths of the TL forum.
(I bet some scrub will link it for you )

nice, enjoy the passion u feel while you're young
and don't worry about doing bad at iccup, you have plenty of time to train and get more experience; as long as you enjoy doing it, you'll get better for sure
p.s: check the hot & pretty progamer girls thread in bw forum, might make you discover unknown realms of your persona (i'm not a scrub)

I remember I learned BW Terran through Stylish's VODs haha...
You will lose hundreds of games on iccup before you start winning. Unless you're really good or really bad. But yeah don't feel bad that you're doing poorly. If anything, BW will teach you to micro and macro ^^ you'll ez your way through SCII ladder if you've played enough ICCup. Good luck!

I thought I kinda knew how to to play, then StylishFPVoD's came out. Number one way to learn how to play Terran IMO, apart from lots of practice.
To give you an example of my pains learning to play though iCCup, check this out: D-FoEva's alternate accounts I chose as suitable username "D-FoEva" = "[D-] for ever", because that's how I felt about my chances for doing well in Starcraft. The reason I made alternate accounts was that I would loose so much I'd get to D- so quickly that no one would accept to play with me, and since you can only reset your stats every 2 weeks I ended up making 3 extra accounts. The last one D-FoEva[ZzoA] was my clan acc. when I finally ended up joining a clan. I play Terran, and you may not have them yet but I PROMISE you will soon get much and many TvP pains. I still feel low level TvP is the most unfair and impossible shit ever, mainly because of the massive APM tax it takes to lay mines and play properly.
But stick with it, I did, and I ended up getting C- and #4 in my entire country It's such a rewarding experience playing and watching BW, don't let it die!
To get better: 1) Read/watch/copy/learn everything put out by Liquipedia, Stylish and Ver 2) Watch some pro-game english casts that explain what is going on. I don't know any because I don't need them ;p but the "Gom Avratech Intell Classic" or "GSI" (find it on the GomTV.net website) has 3 seasons of truly excellent Tasteless +others casts, it's what got me into Brood War and taught me a lot. 3) Watch pro games, download pro replays and copy their builds. 4) Find and join a clan, they'll be able to train with you without stealing your ladder points, and they will help with your game. 5) If you loose a game and can't understand why, watch the replay, and if that isin't enough make a blog about it asking for help and mentioning what you think were the shortcomings in your play. 6) STICK WITH IT!
oh and add me as a friend on iCCup, just type: /f add bitt.man

Welcome and please consider joining our clan sGs. We're playing on iCCup but we're more of a gaming community for beginners that try to improve. It's a good way to make sure you find practice buddies and feel like you belong somewhere. Personally, I found it way better than wandering the wastelands of iCCup ladder all by yourself. More info in my profile Good luck whichever way you go.

lol...it's so true. T___T
Good luck in your BW travels. I think, if you don't find yourself frustrated at how much more you have to manage vs SC2, you'll love it.

thanks for all the support guys! And for linking to Stylish, I had no idea that existed (probably should have based on the amount that I lurk).
Quick question: I know that you should make different units based on what your opponent is doing, but after I make the first siege tank from the factory, what should I make out of it? Vultures? Or more tanks? Or throw down another factory?
In the meantime, time to check out replays and VODs!
