On a side note, I just spent about 12+ hours to read the entire IdrA fan thread. While I was at it, I compiled two (I hope funny) lists of posts. The first one is a list of people who some call Stans™ (from the notorious http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=176514). Would it be because most of them proclaim to be IdrA's fans, but yet critic him and try to make a personal appeal to him to change, I find them funny in some way . Here's the first list - Page 5 + Show Spoiler + On July 28 2010 02:37 Takkara wrote: I'm always conflicted in fandom for idrA. He's a good guy and funny at that. I have nothing against him personally in the least. All the interviews he gives with Artosis and others are really good and feel totally different than his forum/in-game persona. He works really hard at something he loves, and that's something totally to respect. But I think his "say whatever he thinks" mentality is a double-edged sword. As long as he's winning, it's fine, but sportsmanship is still a big part of sports. I don't know if it's good to move esports like Starcraft towards Wrestling style antics as opposed to respecting the game and respecting our opponents. Obviously on the forums this isn't always possible because the guy takes flak for everything, but in-game, unless someone is purposely BM'ing you then I think saying GG out of respect for the game is called for. TLO is a great example of this and just of being a model citizen of the Starcraft competitive community. Hopefully Greg can keep his competitive edge and passion while continuing to mature in the way he shows respect (or lack thereof) for his opponents in game. I do wish the community cared more about mutual respect and sportsmanship. I have a hard time imagining esports growing much when top players like Idra act the way they do and get respected/cheered for it. It will be hard for anybody to take esports seriously when there is a complete lack of professionalism, sportsmanship and respect from one of the top players and their fans. It is unfortunate how many here seem to be a fan just because of his poor manners and lack of respect for others. The community is essentially encouraging BM and I can't imagine anything positive coming from this "Idra's rage is AWESOME!!!!" attitude that so many here are embracing. Our community should hold higher standards for top players. We should be demanding it if we care about esports growing. But that game against Silver made me loose all my respect for him. Whether terran is imbalanced or not I don't care. You don't behave like that in a tournament, and against another player. Silver has played some awesome games, come from no where and beaten good players. If Idra is too stuck up to just take that instead of being the bully pro-gamer who feels the need to bash at new people coming into the scene then he can do that outside of games and tournaments. Just because you think a matchup is imbalanced does not give you the right to rip on another player. That game was so embarassing I hope that ESL has the sense to give him a warning over this and ban him from tournaments for a certain time if he does this again. If anyone but Idra had gone on a rant like that he would had taken heat from the entire community, if a newbie posted a replay where he rants like that it would had been laughed off because of the silly newbie who rants on imbalances when he can't win. But because it is Idra, then to start to rant on your opponent, completely unprovoked and to insult him in a tournament game is suddently a "fresh breath of air"? Come the fuck on. I think Idra is a great player and I don't mind all of the small stuff, but that game was over the line. Page 18 + Show Spoiler + On August 06 2010 10:06 Stratos_speAr wrote: The problem with IdrA is that he's (at this point) the best western player out there, and being the best western SC2 player means you're representing something in e-sports because e-sports isn't mainstream yet. The problem with this is that having someone so childish and immature representing SC2 in that way isn't good, no matter which way you look at it. You're a lone American hope in strange land, fighting for the stars and stripes on foreign soil. I would delight in screaming "USA USA USA" every time you trounce a Korean or Euro. That being said, please stop embarrassing us by acting like a colossal tool. While you persist in acting like a spoiled 2 year-old I cannot in good conscience support you. You have shown that you can display the occasional flash of brilliance, as we saw in your game 1 against White-Ra in the HDH or your play in the King of the Beta. I believe that you can be among the best, but do you? Stop flaming anyone who beats you and work on fixing your terribly predictable play. But whines too much. Has only one style of play, macro and macro again and whines if a player doesnt play the way he does. Even flash is mixing his playstyle more then idra. And for those who watch BW and know flash playstyle they know what im talking about. Fine for idra to play macro, but hes like a kid on bnet trying to teach people his style or w/e. I rather see TLO play because he is mixing things up a bit. Long macro games to cheeses that attracts viewers. Idra is sometimes fun for his great macro and lategame control to all the rage quits, but sometimes he is just so immature and childish, and he does not have good sportsmanship. Its like he thinks he so much better then all the others because he is a reserve-reserve for the reserves for CJentus and lives in Korea, that he can rage and come with lame excuses to everyone who beats him. How could he possibly have any hope of success if he can't win - no, can't even get close to winning now? If you've listened to him in interviews, you know he's never going to recognize his shortcomings and change them. He just believes the solution to everything is to beat his head against the wall even harder, and to practice the same approaches even more obsessively. By the time the next GSL rolls around, the skill level will have risen enough that he's completely left in the dust. I wonder if he can even qualify then. Who is paying for his food and rent? He can't possibly be making enough money from his tournaments, because he always loses them. User was banned for this post. IdrA will prolly be like okay lets just play for an hour if you lose ill show you what you did wrong. Is IdrA selling out? Streaming his games and offering coaching cuz he knows he can't compete with the best. I used to like him cuz he was brutally honest and he didn't care what others think. Please manner up and make some friends so you can have some practice partners. You need more than just ret and artosis to bounce ideas off of... and neither of them play terran. Page 156 + Show Spoiler + On January 20 2011 04:49 dsousa wrote: <3 Idra.... but In competition, or sporting events, sometimes you need to force your opponent to finish the job. By GG'ing so early in game 2 Idra let Jinro off the hook from having to actually earn the win and overcome his nerves. You could say he was likely to lose anyways, but the fact remains that the situation was extremely high pressure and Jinro would have had to still step up and win that game. Pressure of the moment changes things alot.... watch any sport... free throws at the end of the game, field goals from short distance, tennis pro's double faulting on match point..... it happens all the time in every form of sport. Jinro's shown he can be affected by the pressure, but instead of having to overcome that and work to get his first win in the series, Idra just gave it to him. Did you see the look of relief on Jinro's face when Idra gg'd out? The smart move would have been to make Jinro work hard to every scrap... give him NOTHING! Make him beat the pressure. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As for the second list I've made, it's a list of all the IdrA's haters from his own fanclub thread. Sure you may be an average skilled caucasian but in the grand scheme of things, you really just are a sub-par Zerg and RTS gamer.
