I dick around on ladder a lot, I quit games if my friends come online, I six pool if I have somewhere to go. I always just figured "oh, whatever, I don't really care about my record."
And then... it happened.
I lost a couple games to "cheesers" (although I don't really believe in that term) and then I got that fateful message, informing me that I had been bumped to Platinum league.
For a moment, that sick feeling just washes over me. Then shame. That unendurable shame.
I... I am platinum league?
Have to face the facts...
I... am platinum league.
Okay... pull yourself together man... we can get through this...
I'll just ladder a bit, I'll just ladder. I was in Platinum league once before and I will be in Diamdond again in no time.
Here I go...
So I que up my first game. It's terran, so I que up my 15 hatch 15 pool build and... get all in two rax marine rushed and lose.
que up my next game, it's a zerg and do my standard build again... 6 pool... I lose.
Okay... I need to adjust my strategy.
Proxy gateway
Tanks on the ridge in Lost Temple (I actually never saw this once before in Diamond and I forgot that people even could do that @_@)
Seven Pool
Six Pool
Now, I actually am pretty decent at stopping those cheeses; especially six pools and seven pools. Now that I am plat I send out an early drone and make sure I see what my man is doing before I 15 hatch. Out of ten games I played last night eight were zvz and I won seven (all six or seven pooling opponents except one who I beat) I lost to a terran doing tank on the ridge on LT, but I beat a protoss doing proxy gateway.
That's crazy, I played EIGHT zergs and SEVEN of them six or seven pooled me. SEVEN.
But I have to say, it is pretty boring and unsatisfying to beat the guys who do this stuff. Worse, losing to them is just embarrassing and frustrating. I had a lot more fun in Diamond when I had the opportunity to play "standard" games.
So, I am not complaining about the players, they are doing what works for them and "cheese" is actually pretty good in SC2 in my opinion but...
Jeez... Platinum sucks.
