Seeing how lots of people here use Chrome and browse lots of stuff i think its worth it to put this here.
Google just made a new add on for Chrome that will donate every day 1 dollar to a NGO of YOUR election (between five) for every 10 tabs you open. Its as simply and that, its install in like 5 seconds and require NO EFFORT whatsoever.
For those with tin foil helmets, as far as ive read they dont store your browser history and just record the amount of tabs you have opened.
The organizations are:
The Nature Conservancy: is a conservation organization working around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people.
charity: water : is a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. is a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations.
Doctors Without Borders: is an independent, international medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid in nearly 70 countries to those most in need.
Room to Read: is a non-profit organization seeking to transform the lives of children in developing countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education.
Un Techo para mi País (A roof for my Country): is working in 19 countries across the Americas to improve the quality of life of impoverished families through the construction of transitional housing.
I actually work in the latest and we do quite a lot more things than that but building houses is the stepping stone for all the others, so anyway, im not asking you to "donate" to "my" organization, but realize that you can help any one you choose just by simply surfing, no pop ups, no advertisement.
So what are you waiting for?

The Charitable Donation
Google has set a maximum contribution of $1,000,000 associated with the Google Chrome for a Cause extension. You agree Google may change this maximum contribution at its sole discretion.
Limit on tabs submitted
Google Chrome for a Cause sets a daily maximum for the number of tabs you may submit, presently equal to 250 tabs per day. You are also limited to accruing one tab per second towards your daily maximum. You agree to abide by these limitations, and will not use multiple accounts, automated means or other methods to circumvent these limitations. You further agree that Google may change these limitations at its sole discretion.

Oh yeah, theres a limit, its pretty reasonable if you ask me though :p

I'd be more impressed with Google if they simply handed over the money instead of tying it into a conditional promotional campaign.

It makes sense to put a limit on this sort of thing.. Anyone could go spam 5000 tabs in an hour.
This is pretty cool though. I already use Chrome so I'm definitely taking part in this

Of course we would, but does this negativity really belong in a thread about essentially free money towards great charities? At least Google is giving money to the charities...?
Simply handing money over to charities is as much of a publicity campaign anyways.

I don't like the idea of browsing for something other than my own content, but it looks like it is going to do the opposite of harm, so I might use it. I'm already using Chrome, too.

I heard about this, its a really neat idea, I love Chromes speed but dislike the interface, if there were something like this for firefox i'd be all over it.

I prefer chrome over firefox but I pretty much have both browsers opened at any time and use whatever's handy for me when I alt tab. The only thing that firefox has over chrome is better adblock plus for flash videos/streams. I actually prefer chrome's minimalist interface over firefox's too.

I prefer Chrome, but need firefox for its adblock. The one for Chrome is only half as good. x.x
