I suppose I should've included a bit of background: The college I attend (University of Southern California) has a traditional rivalry with its cross town rival, UCLA. Every year before the annual football game between the two schools we have a sort of "spirit" season to get everyone pumped for the game. This piece was drawn for that explicit purpose, so yes it is blatantly trying to flatter its audience. The "corny compliments" are actually the 5 ideal qualities of a Trojan (which is what many USC students identify as) that are carved into a statue in the center of campus. The sky scrapers in the back are actual buildings on our campus and are meant to be more abstract to keep the focus on the subjects. The "spartan" is actually a Trojan warrior (also known as Tommy the Trojan--he's USC's mascot) riding a white horse (named Traveler. The horses that represent traveler have been bred for around 6 generations now) | ||
