He may have only one computer, so after formatting he will not have the drivers for the ethernet card / wifi card and won't be able to connect to internet. How is he going to download the drivers ? @ OP : Get your drivers before formatting !

I would find them BEFORE you reformat though Yep, there is nothing better like formating laptop and finding out that Windows does not recognize your network card. So you have to go to your friend to download that one 500KB driver... God I hope Im not the only one with such an experience Also it would be best to check all devices in device manager so you know what the hell is that one unknown device without a driver. Best would be to make a screenshot and print it out. It will also help out to find out which of that 200 millions f*cking realtek drivers you have to install... And also always install antivirus first before googling any drivers!!! Oh man... this thread brings back memmories...

Make sure to do this before you reformat and then shove it on a external harddrive or something while you wipe the laptop, the reason i say this is because sometimes on older laptops, their wireless isn't enabled until their drivers are installed (these days, you'll have wireless access regardless if you've installed your laptop drivers yet or not, so you can reformat and then DL them after).

Even if the 2nd one has like P3, It might save your life when installing Windows XP or below. But yeah, the thread is pretty much solved - see what drivers you have installed right now, download them, put them on a USB flash drive (or a phone if USB flash drive is not an option), format you HDD, reinstall os, install the drivers if Windows is unable to have your network card running, and from there install other drivers. if anything goes wrong, you should be able to download the drivers that are needed. Oh and sob3k - no you're not the only one with such experience. I had this once too. Thank god I had my Motherboard CD.
