I'm Naypam.292 on EU SC2, the name's David and, well, since the beta I've become addicted to SC2!
I'm doing my best at casting, although not good yet, keep getting "unenthusiastic, I turned off, diaf" but I'm trying to take that lightly, I'm not actually unenthusiastic about the games I cast, I'm just not a WHEE EXCITABLE YIPPEE kind of person! I also don't know Terran like _at all_ so I should probably play as them a bit, but I will get annihilated. I played Protoss in the beta for a while, but when I eventually learned Zerg I was like "damn right, this is the race for me!" and every single game since has been as Zerg.
I'm a computer science student, year 3 just complete, might be getting into next year or might not, I slept through half of my exams so we shall see, no job! I'd love to make a career out of SC2 casting, narrating, playing, whatever! And I'm giving it a stab, uploading 3-4 casts per day I believe each one getting consecutively better.
I'm also trying to learn the best way to upload with a good quality. I've been using Camtasia, which don't get me wrong, is very easy and good, but it crashes too much and takes too long and isn't technical enough.
So I'm just updating my Padre via CPAN as I'm a Perl coder mainly, going to write a script to use virtualdub to on-the-fly monitor my fraps output folder and reduce the AVIs using a set of filters and H264 800Kbit output with some audio compression mixed in to try and get a bunch of AVIs at the end of the cast that I can just join up, convert and upload to blip.tv.
At the moment I think I have the settings pretty good, it's working out at ~200MiB per 20 minutes of cast time, after conversion to 1152x720 flv that's about 140MiB (that's 16:10 btw, as I play on 1920x1200).
Hopefully I can get this working, if I can then I'll be overjoyed as I can actually transcode at about 10fps while I'm recording at 18fps which means that not long after the cast is finished I'll be able to upload it (45KiB/s unfortunately).
I've done quite a few live streams, I can't do them when I'm uploading as I don't have the bandwidth, and the quality is probably terrible, it's set to like 360Kbit to give me a bit of leeway with the rest of the connection, I don't want to saturate the entire connection!
I'm 20 years of age and have _nothing_ to do through the holidays, and I don't attend uni anyway so I'll be uploading for the entire year so long as people keep viewing. I'm finding it tough on TL, I know the community's been here a long time and there are strict rules but it seems everyone's out to get me at the moment, I do apologies and I try to take everything as best I can but I've had a warning and a locked thread and mainly negative reviews of my casts. It's a bit of a downer but what the hey, I'll just keep doing it and hopefully some people like it.
As for my actual gameplay skills, well I played RA3 since day 1 until I got the SC2 beta invite from my friend "Narf" <3. Won about 90% of the games, if someone makes Carville as a map for SC2 then OH MY GOD I will love you FOR EVER!
It's quite funny, I watched my first Day[9] cast and was like "wtf that's taking the game WAY too far" but then after I started getting into the game, taking hints from his casts and watching more, MORE, MORE I grew to love and will one day marry him. Kind of odd how my opinion changed so quickly!
I do need to buy a webcam, the laptop had one (hence my first few low quality, no headset casts) but this computer has none, there is an eyetoy but it won't run on 64 bit. I might eventually try and hack the drivers to run on 64 bit Windows 7 but I'm no driver man! And I hate windows, if I could SC2 on Arch Linux oh how much happier I would be.
I don't have the time to get into the exceptionally advanced map maker and I'm no artist, my artistic skills number zero.
Please don't hate me! I'm trying to be good, this community isn't quite the same as the others I'm a part of, it's a lot more strict and full of gamers! Being a gamer I hate us all!
Thank's for taking the time to read, hope to get to know some of you in future!
