I also still haven't finished FF8. I have a save that I've been working on for, oh, 5 or 6 years now... last year sometime I celebrated finally reaching the end of the first disc. Once or twice a year I remember it and go and play a few more hours.
When you're done with X-Wing you should try to get a hold of Tie-Fighter and X-Wing Alliance. They are part of the same series and similarly awesome.

On topic: recently i played a round of compstomp in Dominions 3 and HoMaM 3 (WoG 3.5) with a friend. i also have Heart of darkness, UFO1 and Master of Orion 2 installed and play frome time to time.
Not so old but still: D2 median XL (love that mod) FreeSpace 1 and 2 (with some fanmade patches) You recommend using those fan patches? I'm thinking of playing fallout 2 since I loved fallout 3. Most of them are very nice and go well with original game setting and quests, especially that many of them are just fixes or finishes of quest's included in the original game. If i remember correctly killap's patches were mostly fixes na not mods so i would recommend them to first time player. Here is a great site for everything fallout related : http://www.nma-fallout.com/Oh and of course i personally consider F1 and F2 way better as an RPG than F3 and i think they are well worth a try ;]
This has been the site I've gone to for years(I have an account there from 2004 xD). Yes, killap's restoration project thingy is what I used XD!
Ah, I'm glad the flow of old new games is still as strong as ever. A good amount of games I've seen, one of them Nox <3 also, I'm trying to get my hands on cnc: renegade, first time the whole rts thing was thrown out for an FPS(on westwoods part) xD!

I can't really agree on CS 1.6 nostalgia, I think it's more popular in Sweden though. Everyone here plays it 24/7 Almost as popular as WoW and the likes.

Nice list! I played Sim City 3000: Unlimited and Sim City 4: Rush Hour recently. Both had their charms but ultimately, if I had to build a city to save a burning building filled with children, I'd pass XD
Civ games were always weird, age of empires I played in my ICM class in high school, Cs I played with dial-up(and I don't know how this worked but I did it for a while XD), Half-life 2 single player is just cumspray material(when I first saw it on t.v.).

Few Earth 21X0 games, Emperor: Battle for Dune, Aliens vs Predator 2 and now I feel like installing Total Anihilation again... ohh it brings memories of my lost childhood. Amount of fan made stuff made for this game was insane, I wonder if some poeple still play it online.

I've played Deus Ex for 1hour and it bored the hell out of me. Oppossing Force/Dark Forces singleplayer was much more enjoyable to me.
Dark Sun: Shattered Lands anyone?
