Starcraft doesn't count!(neither does counterstrike in sweden..or WoW "but it's a 2004 game!!" so what?, the expansions are new). No shit, but anyways, tell me, what new OLD games have you been playing? I had to go through a lot of trouble looking through all my old cd cases and finding cd keys and mounting images and all this bullshit but eventually, I got to play Fallout, fallout 2, call of duty, command and conquer generals, and some emperor: battle for dune rofl!

I'm playing Fallout 2 because they released this patch for it(usermade) that has thousands of bug fixes and a lot of crap was put back into the game that was unfinished. What other old new games has you been playing?!

Fps: Unreal tournament 99, Urban Terror ( quake3 mod now free and stand alone ).
Tried UT 2004 and Unreal 2 but they are both meh.

Rpg: I have started Arcanum ( Rpg a bit like Fallout 2 but different universes ), kinda buggy but really good.
I have tried Neverwinter Night 2 but it was terrible so i gave up... I might give a try to the extension ( better writing ) when i will have some free time though.

Hybrids: The Nameless mod for Deus Ex. Every Deus Ex fan should play this one. One of the best mods ever made.

I played some civilization 2 and 4 not so long ago too but they aren't really new for me :p

I have a lot of games i would like to play but i won't have enough time. I really want to start my ultimate run of BG1+Tosc+BG2+Tob+a bunch of mods ( ScS, ... ) but it would take me one afternoon just for installation+ mod selection and 1+ month of intensive gaming to complete so it probably won't happen.
I really need to play some fallout 2 too.
fuck all those elitists brb watching streams of elite players.

On topic: recently i played a round of compstomp in Dominions 3 and HoMaM 3 (WoG 3.5) with a friend. i also have Heart of darkness, UFO1 and Master of Orion 2 installed and play frome time to time.

Not so old but still: D2 median XL (love that mod) FreeSpace 1 and 2 (with some fanmade patches)

My girlfriend used to own Star Wars: X-Wing. She never played it much but wanted to try it again for nostalgia's sake, so we went and found it. Now I'm gradually working my way through the campaign. It's a really fun game.

I also still haven't finished FF8. I have a save that I've been working on for, oh, 5 or 6 years now... last year sometime I celebrated finally reaching the end of the first disc. Once or twice a year I remember it and go and play a few more hours.

Perfect Dark that came out on the xbox 360. The graphics are amazingly better and the gameplay is much, much smoother. There's also online multiplayer support.

The Fallout 2 patches are a must. Get them for the bug fixes, if for nothing else. Oh, and if you haven't played Fallout 2 before, bear in mind that it plays very differently from Fallout 3. Expect to run away (or die) a lot. Also, most people (especially children, gah) are jerks. Have fun!

this game is incredible. I didnt sleep for 35 hours and then played through the following night

you will obviously need dosbox for this

ANYONE who remakes this game( no idea how good day[9] is at doing this, still a hint) will rake in HUGE cash. Its one of the most thought out and least recognized games of its time - weather conditions heavily influencing abilities in battle, diplomacy, 18 tribes, fomor raiders every year, rune spells with 2 kinds of spell casters, wandering mercs for hire( only way to find out about the rune combinations), artifacts, unique abilities etc. It was too much for 1995

Most of them are very nice and go well with original game setting and quests, especially that many of them are just fixes or finishes of quest's included in the original game.

If i remember correctly killap's patches were mostly fixes na not mods so i would recommend them to first time player.
Here is a great site for everything fallout related : http://www.nma-fallout.com/

Oh and of course i personally consider F1 and F2 way better as an RPG than F3 and i think they are well worth a try ;]

that wasnt an RPG, they called those "adventure" or "quests"

and best one was gobliins series hands down, sorry! And close second would probably be legend of kyrandia

edit: this just actually reminded me of this AMAZING game that came out much later

When you're done with X-Wing you should try to get a hold of Tie-Fighter and X-Wing Alliance. They are part of the same series and similarly awesome.

This has been the site I've gone to for years(I have an account there from 2004 xD). Yes, killap's restoration project thingy is what I used XD!

Ah, I'm glad the flow of old new games is still as strong as ever. A good amount of games I've seen, one of them Nox <3 also, I'm trying to get my hands on cnc: renegade, first time the whole rts thing was thrown out for an FPS(on westwoods part) xD!

I can't really agree on CS 1.6 nostalgia, I think it's more popular in Sweden though. Everyone here plays it 24/7 Almost as popular as WoW and the likes.

Freespace, Homeworld (for epic battles)

during the previous 13 years i played a lot of fun and great games

Played the Half Life 2 singleplayer but was bored pretty quickly, good story but way too linear :/

Also AoE3 is awesome

Nice list! I played Sim City 3000: Unlimited and Sim City 4: Rush Hour recently. Both had their charms but ultimately, if I had to build a city to save a burning building filled with children, I'd pass XD

Civ games were always weird, age of empires I played in my ICM class in high school, Cs I played with dial-up(and I don't know how this worked but I did it for a while XD), Half-life 2 single player is just cumspray material(when I first saw it on t.v.).

Few Earth 21X0 games, Emperor: Battle for Dune, Aliens vs Predator 2 and now I feel like installing Total Anihilation again... ohh it brings memories of my lost childhood. Amount of fan made stuff made for this game was insane, I wonder if some poeple still play it online.

I recommend Celtic Kings: Rage of War and Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns.
Single Player is horrible on CK:RoW but playing Skirmishes was really amazing.

Can't find Kohan 1 videos on YouTube but this video is pretty similar, its the second game in the franchisé but the first one is much better.

Couldn't find any video of CK:RoW but i could find a video of a sequel named Celtic Kings: The Punic Wars. Apparently the sequel features another playable faction

I guess Duke3d, Might and Magic VI-VIII, HoMM 3, (Open) Transport Tycoon Deluxe, Rollecoaster Tycoon, Theme Hospital... from the top of my head, there's just way too many old games that have at least decent entertaiment value.

With all the (S)NES emulators, Dosbox and whatever counted in too, the size of game pool increases manyfold.

Oh, and Myth: The Fallen Lords, this game was insanely hard back in day, even nowadays it offers a good challenge and damn the LAN games are awesome.

Instead of replaying old games these days, I just watch whatever Kikoskia is Let's Playing. (www.youtube.com/kikoskia). Funniest LPer on YouTube for sure. Fortunately for me he's halfway through a Deus Ex playthrough ATM (one of my favourite games) as well as a few others so I'm entertained as hell.

Yeah, i also tend to read/watch LP's of older games instead of actually playing them. The LP-ers can create quite enjoyable experience in otherwise dull game or in genre one would never play.

i would recommend Let's play archives for many good LP's. personally i read:
Boatmurdered (an Dwarf Fortress LP - it got me hooked on that awesome game)
Headshoots (another DF lp)
UFO lp's (i liked first the most)
Fallout lp's (especially the one with stupid INT:3 char in F2)
FF8 and some othes not really worth mention i think.

AoE3 is terrible compared to lets say, AoE1.

Lol, for some reason I just feel lonely playing old games. I feel like I'm the only one in the world playing xyz right now. So I watch someone play through it who is commentating and adding jokes as well as participate in the comments section. It works for me =D.

To me all the AoE games are totally different with different feelings and everything. You can't really compare them.

www.powerballzone.com is starting their Smallpub Draft League. If anyone is interested in learning how to play lemme know. The first round of league games are tonight. Powerball Zone is a zone within the game Continuum/Subspace which is arguably one of the oldest massive multiplayer games still running.

Here's a vid of Hockey Zone's RSHL league (similar to Powerball Zone bc they are both ball-based games): http://dev.chrisnet.com/video/h_rshl_rep_playoffs_leg_exp_g2.html

that wasnt an RPG, they called those "adventure" or "quests"

and best one was gobliins series hands down, sorry! And close second would probably be legend of kyrandia

edit: this just actually reminded me of this AMAZING game that came out much later

if you havent played neverhood you probably should.

WOW, I have not seen that game or thought of it for at least 12 years. But if anyone has not played neverhood you definitely should. Kyrandia was also pretty good too.

X:Com UFO Defense and it's variations (e.g. terror from the deep) as well as Pharoah + its expansion pack Cleopatra which was a city builder type of game with various campaigns. Both were very well done.

Sometimes I wish they would invent this machine to make a clean image in your head.
For rpgs, adventure games and similiar the first time experience will always be the best and I fear to play the same game again in order not to ruin memories...

Well for any Final Fantasy lover, or general rpg enthusiast I really recommend Septerra Core : The Legacy of the Creator.
Used to play it over 8 years ago, great music, graphics, enviroment, amazing storyline and even some tough battles that will take several times to beat.

I wanted to play Starfox 64 but I couldn't find my 64 cartridge at college so I had to play it on emulator ... the sound was whack and playing on the keyboard was pretty lame =_=

I did however get to listen to Wolf saying "CAN'T LET YOU DO THAT STAR FOX"

I'm in fucking love

Mount&Blade (2008) (and it's stand alone expansion Warband (2010) ) is so fucking amazing I cannot believe my eyes.

Seriously, it's the most fun single player game I've played in a long, long while, and while there were complaints about it not being refined enough, or having medium graphics, it is truly and remarkably epic, but epic in the sense of 1996-1998 gaming, if you know what I mean. The highlights are the sheer freedom you have to do as you please, and of course the brilliantly implemented combat system, very sharp, easy-to-learn hard-to-master type that will fuel your returning and re-returning to this game years later down the line.

It's and open ended RPG, with lots of subtle strategy and very intense third person action at the same time. It's a complex medieval fantasy setting with mounted and infantry combat, very realistic, no spells/magic, just cold hard steel and diplomacy.

Here is a video showing combat from the Warband expansion multiplayer
