After playing 30 odd games of SC2 beta in a row, I recollect my first impressions.
1: FUCKERS CHANGED THE HOTKEYS (this doesnt bother me so much anymore)
2: Goddammit, workers are smart now. This is where I really felt like I was playing a new, different game. I set my probe to harass an scv, or a drone, or whatever it was, and my opponent responded by taking a peon off to attack my scout.
I clicked him around the base a little, noticing that holy shit, his peon was chipping away at my scout's HP pretty effectively though slowly, like a lazy zergling. It was actually a little bit of work to keep my poor probe alive.
3: Winning with zealot rush is still awesome.
PS: I'm gonna use my blog to dump my half assed thoughts in between writing real articles for TL, so don't expect much refinement here.

Yeah, 2 gate zealot is strong in PvP since you can't micro stalkers as effectively as goons. Hotkey changes are annoying, until the beta allows us to customize our layouts. I want my P to Probe/Pylon, M for Marines, O for Overlords.

Yeah, they changed the hotkeys, but they're better. I always hated pressing P for probe and pylon and O for overlord. They were way too out of the way.
Its always funny watching people stream and control their workers like they would from sc1 when they don't need to.
Zealot rushes will always be awesome, make sure you're using the nexus ability to make them build faster.

I wonder who thought it was a good idea to have Siege Mode set to E and Un-siege set to D....... Same with the viking - Land set to D, Lift off set to E. Tilt.
EDIT: Actually, this makes sense .. sort of. If I have 10 tanks selected, 5 sieged and 5 unsieged... I can now siege/unsiege easily (like if I want 10 unsieged, I just click D).
|
I can see that being useful when you have both sieged and unsieged tanks selected. Still kinda silly though :p

This is gonna drive me crazy. Learning all the shortcut keys in bw was a fair bit of work... and now you have to UNLEARN a lot of them and use new ones...

Learning hotkeys is easy, just force yourself to hit the key every time instead of clicking.

SonuvBob, even you say 'hotkeys' instead of 'shortcut keys'??? Oh well I'll take comfort in viewing this awesome picture:

Foreal man, E as pylon? Common now, lets be fair.

I actually like V as the overlord hotkey now. so much easier to hit SV rather then SO.

I always screw up making my hydra den, that seems like the only that got farther away. I keep hitting bd, then vd, then finally realizing it is vh.

yeah haha what genius at blizzard thought of the good old keyboard stretch for overlords

I've played around 100~ beta games and I'm pretty used to SC2 hotkeys now, and I would probably have some problems going back to SC1 hotkeys. That said, I didn't really play much SC1 in the past few years, so it was probably easier for me to switch over than for some others.
