No, just the hype has gone up considerably since Katrina and Haiti, now every hurricane and comparatively common earthquake is big news.

From my (very limited) experiance I think the strong earthquakes usually come first and then weaker ones follow. I've never (again very limited) experianced anythin opposite to that.
Sloshed my friends pool around, here in the Phoenix, AZ area. I don't know that I felt it, but I had a dream about there being an earthquake here last night.
