Ask yourself how come that you didn't want at first to read my article but only when you seen food, your favorite game and opposite gender? What if I didn't include those pictures, but in fact my article is one of greatest Starcraft knowledge in world and anyone who reads it will be one of best Starcraft: Brood War players in universe? You see how your percepction can control your decision? In that case you would miss opportunity of lifetime!
Is perception what we see the best "judge" for what we should do?
Can we really understand our eyes and ears best way to get information from our surroundings and based on that act upon them? Seeing how Protoss have common link between them that comes from learning of «Way of the Khala» — we can be sure that if we had MORE eyes and ears we would in fact catch MORE information in less time — but question still stands: «Is that information valid assumption of reality and best choice to act upon to?». For example: your units are just outside fog of war and you see Hydra's approacing your High Templars and few Speedlots. You at first see there are just couple of them because FOW hides the rest. Your brain interpretates that outcome of battle would be on your side because you have bigger army numbers. You attack the group of Hydra's just to see that more of them are on the way. Now is the time for retreat, but damage is done — you may already lost a High Templar or two and that can be game ending mistake in very delicate matchup as PvZ.
Another side of story would be that you BELIVE in something you didn't see, for example: you didn't see Zerg's tech completely but you belive he is going 3 Hatch Hydra push, but as you didn't see it you are UNSURE but UNSURE feeling is in fact big variable and it makes it less «important» in prioroty your mind has built into it. In the end, Zerg can go mutalisk that makes you and your cannons in front of your fast expansion dead, he can expand until you are so far behind there is no hope for wining the game or do some Lurker drop and etc. You need to put balance between seeing and then beliveing and perception that can fog your mind as fog of war hides units in Starcraft from your eye — eye that is medium that intercepts all outside things that will be subject of perception of your mind.
In that case, you should focus on controling perception of mind better then eye because eye will SEE things as it is and mind can make decisions based on his percepction (that is yours that you want in sum of all things and in the end of story if you control it after all) and will execute next action based on it. Train perception and do not try to discover more information via «the eye» because too much pokeing into enemy territory for info can make outcome even worse (like I mentioned in article about «quick way to finish the game»).
Same thing goes for real life. For example, you see celebrities all the time, and you see them in their shine and glory fashion — but ask yourself: are they really like that? We make our judgements very much based on how someone looks and people in general (and players that are smart — connection with Starcraft) will exploit it. Why to judge te book by its covers? It's just natural thing I suppose but we can control it. If you don't step forward based on your first impression you can benefit in a lot of ways: maybe you won't get into destined-to-fail relationship with girl that is maybe pretty but is very bad person or maybe you will not step into fog of war full of Lurkers with spines that will tear you down to shreds.
Communication between brain and eye can sometimes be missleading. Be carefull of that when you are trying to press your opponent that didn't show all of his true cards yet.
Again, I can't stress enough how much do you need to balance things while controling your perception, sometimes variable segment is so high that you need extra information to clear your perception even better — but only thing that can help you then is experinece. How deep should you go exploring? Base it on experinece, to reffer on my other article — it's only REALISTIC thing you can and should do. To make your decision based on something that is not clear is not good decision because in the end, decision that will decide your future decision are of utmost importance. Advice here would be just to try make yourself train much so you can get percent of failure/sucsses in dwelling into uknown to get yourself something that can help you control perception of a brain that is in fact variable of it's own.
Beware fog of war, especially if some nasty unit is behind it.
Sun Tzu also teaches us that one of ways to make victory easier is to know your enemy and to know yourself, but we should always be cautious about HOW we and WHAT do we do in order to get to know our enemy. Is it imperative to KNOW it even if we maybe get in danger because of that? It's your and yours experience only that can give you the valid answer, but to be cautios in time that there is something black that dosen't let you even plan your investigation is also something that needs to be taken with respect. All in all, if we look more closely you can se connection with your field of vision in games in same manner exactly in real life — you can grasp information from various resources but only some will provide you with the best ones that results good outcome. Think about what resources you will use and what will you ignore, this way you will make good decisions based on realistic opinion and cold-brain thinking and also spare yourself some precious time that would go away by doing actions that are complete failure and lead to nothing but satisfaction of your brain and eye in most cases.
To really look into someone you need to know it's clean apperence and to do so you must be ready to take closer look before it develops into another entity, like scout before your opponent builds important tech structure like Spire or Dark Archives — and in real life just look into girl without and after makeup, I am sure your decision will be easier, better and more efficent.
Take care and thanks on support,
