~ Canon EOS 5D ~
I got paid on Friday and the promptly withdrew my entire paycheque to go to the same building in which the OGN studios is housed (I-Park Mall's Living and Digital.)
I went a few weeks back on a research trip armed with a pen and notepad to check out prices. I'm pretty sure I could have gotten a cheaper deal at Namdaemun market's many independant camera shops, but I went to a store inside Yongsan for convinience and ease of checking up if anything goes wrong.
The guys working at Prime Digital speak fluent English which was also a factor in buying from them and I had everything sorted within about 25 minutes.
They also threw in a screen protector, 1GB memory card and USB flash drive (a cute little yellow one.) for free.
The camera is pretty useless until I get the lens in August though. I'm hoping to debut it at the OSL finals on the 22nd. (I'm going to do some extensive practice beforehand because shooting with Canon feels very different to working with Nikon.)
I'll be picking up the 70-200mm IS USM lens which is more expensive than the camera body (-_-) I also want to buy some more lenses such as a fisheye (used to great effect by Mr.Park @ Fighter Forum before he left.)
I've been very unsatisfied with the quality of my interior shots for a long time now in comparison to my photography idol Mr.Kang who is Fomos' lead photographer. Hence I'm buying the same kit as him and then adding variations to spice up my own shooting style which feels a little stale recently. I don't like having to do so much post-production editing and airbrushing of skin tone to remove noise using photo shop so hopefully this will solve these problems and cut down on the 1-2 hour editing times needed for interior work.
Canon seems to deal much better with skin tone on interior shots and also with the right flash (This model has no internal flash like my D40X which I currently use.) which I'm going to have to buy in September it makes exterior shots look so much smoother than my Nikon is able to.
At events we are not allowed to use flash inside so the flash is no big rush for me. I'm just excited to have a new toy to play with and I hope to be able to create more beautiful images and give a better insight into Korean esports for everyone.
I'm not sure what will happen to my Nikon D40X and it's Sigma lens. I think they'll be kept as back up and become my 'going out' camera once I can buy a smaller lens for them.
If anyone has any suggestions of what to photograph for practice I'd appreciate those too. I need to expand my range of subjects/locations etc.
Thanks for everyones' support - especially Mum, Susie, Dan, Scaramanga and the IRC crew who've helped me keep up my motivation to save for this camera and keep shooting esports.
