What the usual suspects, Jess, Tiff, SeoHyun, Sunny, TaeYeon? Yeah you noticed too, hmmm....
Well I really did like how they did it before, with each person at least getting one solo line no matter how terrible they are *coughhyocoughyeoncough*.
Trust me though, no one is as bad as SoHee though =D
True that might be, but at least they give her a chance to sing even though she's god awful.
What's the point of having 9 people in your group when only 5 of em sing? The other four might not be the greatest singers, but hell at least give them a chance instead of simply showcasing your best singers.
Exhibit A: SPEED, the J-Pop group, out of four members, it was only Hiro and Eriko that sang, while Takako and Hitoe just stood there rofl.
Then sorry to say those groups fail and need to be re-examined as to whether or not they need to cut people. If you only have 1 person singing and 4 people lollygaggin there, screw the 4, gimme the guy who sings solo.

Yeah it's something that I can't even try to reason out either. I guess the thing with K-Pop is that choreo ability also matters a lot because of the numerous stage performances that they do, so they have to have at least one elite dancer for each group. So HyoYeon is actually somewhat just as integral as the main vocalists. K- Pop is one of the only countries I know in which the performance of the song is probably more important than the actual song itself...

All 9 do sing. A lot of the song is duet parts, where one of the lesser singers (ex: not Jess/Tiff/Seohyun/Sunny/Taeyeon) sings with the better singers. It's unnoticeable, but it's there.
And they keep Hyoyeon to choreograph dances and to make the other 8 look better in comparison.
But in regards to the music video: Taeyeon, Sooyoung, hooooot.

You say that because you're used to the American music industry. We've gone past the point where Backstreet Boys/N'Sync were popular. Every single group that's successful in America is either a small group (2/3 people) or solo, thanks to the popularity of the hip-hop/rap industries in America. It's also hard to find a melodic, upbeat pop song like these in America too - the most melodic songs tend to be melancholy. That's just the way the music industry in countries develop.

That is true because most groups or a solo artist would perform at least once a week in order to keep their rank on the music charts. It is also crucial of them to keep performing to promote their album. Not to mention it is one of many ways to attract new fans and an example would be 2PM. 2PM is still a new group and their new mini album came out about 2 months ago with their hit song "Again and Again" and they won about 3 or 4 awards on music shows. Also Kpop is known to have a strong emphasis on dancing compared to other Asian music. That is because popular groups like Big Bang, SHINEE, 2NE1, etc hire mainly American hip hop choreographers.
I think they all look great. Hyo only looks not as good when you put her next to the other 8. I liked the MV a lot and Tae really did up her sexiness from like a 3/5 to a 6/5.
