As we all know, Zerg buildings all carry a hidden cost. The cost is an extra 50 minerals. Knowing this, wouldn't it be more effective to use your first four starting drones for buildings?
Allow me to provide some statistics, as my writing skills are bad.
If you make a drone (50 minerals) then use that drone for mining, Build the Hatchery (300 Minerals), and then replace the drone (50 minerals) then you will spend a total of 400 minerals to make the hatchery.
However, these costs can be avoided by 50 minerals, using the theory of Zerg starting drones.
Consider this - As zerg you start out with 4 drones, and you get them for free.
If for the first four buildings you make you use the 4 drones that you started with (that cost you 0 minerals) you will in effect save 200 minerals (50 minerals saved per drone used to make a building).
Here is how it works mathematically
1. Using a drone made for mining, making the Hatchery, and replacing the drone.
Cost of drone (50) + Cost of Hatchery (300) + Cost of replacing the drone (50) = 400 total cost
2. Using one of the 4 starting drones to create a hatchery, then replacing it
Cost of Hatchery (300) + Cost of Replacing drone (50) = 350 total cost
The numbers do not lie. Using your first 4 starting drones to make your first 4 buildings is more cost effective, and in the end will save you 200 minerals in the early game, which can determine a win.
