33 deaths now: http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/student-beheaded-at-v-tech/2009/01/23/1232471547330.html
You just wonder what is in their heads...very little is known about him at the moment, especially with regards to motive.
Not known to be mentally disturbed, wasn't arguing with her at the time, a PhD student and was obviously one of her friends.
School records showed that Haiyang was listed as one of Xin's emergency contacts.
Yet in broad daylight in a very public space, he decapitates an innocent girl with a kitchen knife seemingly unprompted.
What the fuck is going on?

Yes this is the same massacre thus the death toll of the shootings from two years ago is rising...right...

what the fuck are going through these people's heads..

It's a horrible murder and it's at V-Tech, I didn't say it was part of the massacre - it's part of their death toll as a tertiary institution...beside the point. Main focus = the decapitation that just happened, not the title of the thread.
I almost said use your head.

wtf... so he just decapitated her in a coffee shop or something? damn...
edit: reminds me of the article we had on here a while ago about the decapitation on that greyhound bus

What? This guy is strong as jack bauer or he was using an axe and a base. No way in hell he just suddenly beheaded a full grown person with a kitchen knife.

idk i think its possible if the knife was really sharp, or if by kitchen knife they meant butcher knife or something. This guy is a psychopath.

What's with us Asians lately in North America.

Man.. I've beaten people up before... and I mean bloodied them, but to stab - no - BEHEAD someone would be insaaaaaane. It would require so much hate and physical exertion.
Unbelievable. Acts like that are beyond the scope of forgiveness. You'd have to be a truly benevolent soul to forgive him.

v-tech must actually be a satanic cult
just your standard sacrifice folks, move along now, nothing to see here

this is disgusting. must be quite scary; the massacre then this..

I guess this isn't the type of thing to joke about.
I hate threads like this. So depressing. Not sure how people can get themselves to do this.

I'm shocked...as always - I can't believe this ever happening, especially in such a setting...relaxed and peaceful most of the time.
Well, he had a kitchen knife with him...obviously it was planned to a degree. As things unfold I'm sure we'll find out more...hopefully not a fucked up video again. "You've got blood on your hands that will never wash off."
Often I enjoy a coffee with my friends, the 'brutally slay' mood never strikes.
Possibility of it being her refusing his sexual advances, yet not knowing he was a complete crazy?
Ps: What ever did happen with the bus-killing in Canada?

Beacuse of the etnicity and the age of them this looks more like a crime of passion to me. Also this was done in daylight and in a public place, i dont see this being too much premeditated, yet this violence is horrible.

I go to VT, and I'm fairly pissed off at how the administration handles this shit. I was about 400 feet from the building where this happened when it happened, and all I noticed out of the ordinary was an ambulance showing up. I walked back to my dorm, started watching a movie with some of my friends, and about 30 minutes later got an alert telling me there was a murder in the GLC and that we should stay where we are. But that was *all* they told us. Basically "you might be in danger, but we're not gonna give you any information that you could use to protect yourself with." They didn't even release the race of the suspect until 5 hours later. They tout their damn alert system as if its amazing, but its downright useless. All the alerts they give out are vague and don't tell you anything useful.
This isn't the first time they've sucked at giving out info either. Someone jumped out of the 7th floor window of my dorm last year, and it took them *36* hours to even email us telling us that something had happened (and they were very vague about that), even though there was a dead body lying outside the front door. I find it absolutely despicable that newspapers 30+ minutes away get information on this stuff faster than the students that go to the damn school.
Enough of my ranting though. This murder is fairly unbelievable. The place it happened is rarely visited by anyone other than graduate students, and is fairly quiet. On top of that, the girl listed her murderer as an emergency contact. Makes no fucking sense atm, but they won't release anything before they go to court.

I feel horrible that something like this happened, and even more that it happened at a place of "higher education." I hope her family can find the best possible peace they can.

That's an interesting article, but it doesn't really describe much about the actual attack, mostly just background information about it. I guess there's still a lot that's left unknown, but I was curious as to what exactly happened. It's no easy task to decapitate someone with a kitchen knife, let alone in a cafe on a college campus. That would be very hard to do without anyone seeing or hearing anything, and it said that calls were made to the police (who responded very quickly apparently), so I'm very interested in knowing what triggered those calls and either how the attacker finished the job that fast or how he was able to do as much as he did before the calls were made without drawing attention to himself.
Regardless, this is a terrible thing and it's a shame that this school has to suffer even more trauma such as this
