What is Wuthering Waves you ask? Simply put, its yet another Chinese Gacha(pon) game. But let's ask google for a more... flowery... description:
~~~~Wuthering Waves is a free-to-play action role-playing game developed and published by Kuro Games. It was released on May 22, 2024. Being an open world gacha game, Wuthering Waves has been compared to other titles such as Genshin Impact, but aims to emphasize combat more than its predecessors.~~~~
Wow, doesn't that just get the old juices flowing?
Now I've played maybe ~15 hours so far and here is my personal take as an FGO/Genshin/Star Rail veteran:
1) The combat is more involved, more button-mashy and in my opinion more fun. Think about DMC's combo system but in a gacha game.
2) The open world is vast and populated with a lot of
3) Instead of farming artifacts in dungeons, you catch pokemon in the open world and upgrade those for stat increases. This includes bosses.
4) Has a break mechanic kinda like Dark Souls/Elden Ring? But the break bar is visible like in Star Rail. Very satisfying to break and lay into enemies when they're down.
5) Art design is less anime-ish and more... mature & bleak, maybe I'd say? The characters have a sharp, detailed look to them and not-at-all bubbly like in Genshin.
6) Story seems ass and is hard to follow and care about.
7) Lots of memes and references to pop culture.
Kuro games, the creators of this game are also giving out 2 *FREE* 5-star standard units at the start of the game. You get one from your initial celebratory launch banner that is capped at 50 pulls (but each 10-pull costs 8 vauchers only) and then as an apology for a ?shitty? launch (I dunno, people were complainin' apparently) you get a single use vaucher that lets you pull the exact desired 5-star you want immediately.
Whether the game will endure or the hype will die down in a month or 2 remains to be seen, but I think its worth a try, especially since you can get 2 free 5-star units early on.
