After reading this Reddit thread I decided to look at some suspicious profiles in details. I found 3 players like that so far but there are probably more.
Turns out there is a new exploit/hack that allows you to trick the game into thinking your loss is actually a tie so you avoid losing mmr.
After I checked their profile on SC2Pulse I confirmed it's not a visual bug, they're actually not losing any mmr from these games. And when they do, it will count as a loss in the match history, not a tie (hack didn't work/wasn't turned on)
I managed to get my hands on multiple replays from them and it's very obvious they're also maphacking or using a laghack
Obviously if you see someone like that ingame you should report them to Blizzard (and SC2Pulse if you have the time)

Huh, I wonder how they are doing it.
Weird "hack" though, wouldn't you just end up with an inflated mmr losing every single match you play?

People hack like this just so they can post a screenshot to Reddit of how they made it into Grandmaster's league, which now gives them all the "authority" they need to balance whine on reddit and in twitch chat.
You underestimate the pettiness of these hackers.

I just hit this guy on ladder, can confirm. And yes, you're right that his MMR is inflated because holy shit this guy sucks too much to be at Masters level. Even after holding a bane bust that he saw coming and going thors to counter mutas he still lost lol. He even acknowledged the hack (please excuse his language and read from the bottom up):
After the game you see a screen like this:
And yes all his losses are ties:

Oh and in the middle of the game he lags for about 18 seconds, I assume that's related. Do you remember him lagging for a short period during your game as well?
|
The game also shows him being offline for hours when I hit him a 2nd time. He plays dumb and says he's not cheating lol.

i played this guy twice last night fuck this guy, hes actually hacking, you can see him look through the fog of war so many times first at my wall, then he sends one marine and clicks it where i had it on the map. if anyone wants a replay i have multiple of him doing this.
IF YOU PLAY HIM PVT he always goes no gas 5rax 1base all in where he pulls the scvs and hits at ~3:45. turtle and you'll force him to leave (I mean it will be a tie but at least dont give him the points). do NOT proxy he has maphack on.
|
lol what a wanker. He probably even paid for that hack.
|
Update: Seems like it's confined to a small number of players so far. From the datas I got from sc2Pulse, it's about <10 players (I need to individually check them later). It's either a small group who find a new exploit or a beta feature for a maphack.

Nice work, NewHoriZonS. Not sure if Blizzard will take any action but can we have the list of players?

The things you have to do for imaginary points on the internet. There's got to be a new level of stupidity here....

Here is note about the last HOTFIX
Orbital Command
Fixed an issue with Orbital Command's placeholder model looking like the Command Center on low graphic settings. Fixed an issue where Orbital Command had no ghost-landing actor.
I wonder if it's related.

On X. Chazley Hulett @chazleyhulett I asked him about it and he said it was a visual bug not a hack and that if I gave him mmr he would tell me how it works
So, the hacker said it's a visual bug not a hack.
And the last hotfix changed visual things about command center.

They lift and hide the Command Center.

He said that to me after I pressed him on it. The first game I encountered him he said "no mmr 4 u". He knows what he's doing and won't take responsibility. This cheat doesn't have anything to do with flying buildings or the buildings dying, he can quit the game and make it a tie whenever he wants. I'm not even mad about not getting the points, I just don't understand what he gets out of it. He inflated his MMR so that he only plays against people way better than him and he never wins. He could just not cheat and get put up against other gold players on the ladder and have fun winning half his games. I know doxxing is against the rules, but maybe we could find his parents and convince them to get an abortion.

I played against a Random in Diamond with this hack (so many ties in match history). I did a ninja 2nd that he found quickly with no scout and then there was a sequence of really suspicious actions that I called him out on it early game. He may have had something where he could see where every widow mine I had was burrowed as well (unconfirmed).
The thing is, even with hacks he was so bad that I could still hold his push and crush him as we moved onto 3 bases. MMR aside, which I don't care about anymore, this hack is the worst for the user. Imagine a gold vs a diamond or a plat vs a masters. They don't have the speed or skill to keep up even with maphack, and their losses don't let them drop to someone they can handle. A waste of time but not a threat.

In no way am I a cheat developer or cheat user. Just a random guy with some knowledge.
In regards to maphack: Maphack users are typically bad players. Good players crush maphack users like a empty soda can. Easy win. Maphack can be created on SC2 without modifying the game directly. On a good note, Blizzard can detect and ban maphack users by simply checking if a player is suppose to see a unit. If the player is not suppose to a see a unit through FOW at that current time, he is most likely maphacking. I don't know if that makes perfect sense
Tie hack: The tie hack came out last patch. Not many users had it. In the previous patch, it didn't require much effort to get working, and didn't even require modification of SC2. Blizzard fixed the tiehack with patch 5.0.12 (for the most part). Now it requires actual work to get it working .
Command Center: The command center is no way related to the tie hack. People lift the command center to hide while their SCVs get used for the lag hack. The lag hack can crash another player's SC2 if they have terrible PC specs.
