1. Stopped watching SC2 some years ago because Zerg was winning everything and patches weren't addressing it.
2. Came back recently to see this tournament's RO8 is getting dominated by zergs: 5 out of 8. 2 terrans and 1 protoss
3. Getting curious, goes back to check previous result: IEM 2022: zerg champion IEM 2021: zerg champion IEM 2020: zerg champion IEM Season XIII - Katowice: zerg champion IEM Season XII - World Championship: zerg champion IEM Season XII - PyeongChang: zerg champion IEM Season XII - Shanghai: zerg champion IEM Season XI - World Championship: at last a terran champion
2019 WCS Global Finals: zerg champion 2018 WCS Global Finals: zerg champion 2017 WCS Global Finals: zerg champion 2016 WCS Global Playoffs and Finals: terran champion
How do you protoss fans even stick around this scene and stay calm? I'm well aware protoss is strong below top tiers as it's always been but to fans doesn't trophy mean everything in any competitions? Is this going to be responded with another tireless rhetoric of Protoss players not innovating, underperforming, not skilled, their playerbase too thin to contend at top tiers? Who cares? That's not quantifiable nor provable claim and results don't lie. Seems like been years since they won the most prestigious tournament. Heard Hero winning GSL was the first time in like 5 years too. Shouldn't 'balance' patches be made at this stage to force non-zerg player to win for the sake of balance? Seems kinda pointless to see so many years of zerg domination going unanswered for whatever reasons I'm not aware of.
I can't be the only one watching these results and go "Hmmm something seems wrong maybe we need measures to not alienate 2/3 of the viewerbase"
I hope we don't get a ZvZ finals at very least. Sorry for this whiny rant but it's disappointing coming back years later to see nothing has changed. I'm not complaining zerg domination at RO 8 since that can happen and the patch is still fresh to make a judgement on. I'm rather complaining about previous results; I just hope protoss wins this tourny and if not terran wins it at very least.

sums it up for me tbh but that's why I don't really follow playoffs anymore unless one of the Protoss' makes a deep run
Its simply because you need foreigner win tournament to keep the scene alive. If they change the game such that Terran and Protoss race is more favored in general, foreigner are not winning any global tournament.
I really hope that Maru wins his first match, otherwise the day is gonna be really long for me. If he wins I can have hope until like 8pm and then even if he loses to Serral (the odds of RagnaroK beating Maru are lower than beating Serral anyways) the day is almost over anyways.
Overall all matches are pretty exciting, unless RagnaroK gets 3-0d. I think Oliveira has a real shot at taking out Reynor, he seems in good shape right now

simply predictions without a ton of explanation behind

You're giving TIME more of a chance against Reynor than Solar against Maru?
I don't know how i feel about that. I think Solar deserves to at least be predicted at 3-1 especially with how he played yesterday.
I'm expecting 3-2 either way.
I think Reynor is way more likely to occasionally lose a map in ZvT compared to Maru TvZ if he plays well. What Solar showed against SpeCial wasn't super hot and while he won solid against GuMiHo, Maru is worlds above.
IF(!!) Maru peaks TvZ here, there is no chance even for A-game solar. If Maru doesn't play peak, there is a chance but Solar still needs to play well. TIME at least took a map off of Dark who can be considered at times the best ZvT I think. That would explain my reasoning.
In the end I care more about the end result though
