Seasonal journey sounds like daily quests+ and boy do I hope that they won't add the limitations they added to D:I to daily rewards.

Sure, it is not. But when they already talk about how they want to use the game they want to sell to me to sell me more stuff, and for that buying to "feel good", it seems to me as if the focus is more on how to milk money out of me over providing me with a fun gameplay experience. And at that point, it becomes increasingly unlikely that i buy the game in the first place. Why should i pay money for a shop that sells me more stuff?

What's the alternative, "We want to make customers buying our stuff feel like miserable as possible"? I don't know how its a focus when they havent really talked about it before this month? And the answer is because you're paying for a game thats supposed to be fun and the shop is optional addon stuff that the industry has done for over a decade?

Sure, the industry has done it for over a decade, and i have hated it for over a decade. I hate feeling nickled and dimed at every opportunity. I want to be able to relax while gaming, and i am not able to do that if i feel that i need to constantly on guard against the product that i just bought trying to extract more money from me. And yeah, talking about how you want it to be "fun" to buy shit in your shitty in-game store is disgusting to me. I remember when games were just games, and not a store within a game. Basically, i want no store in game, and any second of development or development talk spent on an in-game store that actively lowers the value of a game to me is a negative to me. And anything that normalizes in-game stores is also a negative to me. They are shit and disgusting and i hope that at some point gamers collectively boycott every single game that involves one, so we can get back to games being games instead of store fronts designed to extract more cash. And i personally find the statement "We want you buying stuff in game to feel good" disgusting. The alternative would be "There is no way to gain anything in game by spending real money". That is the thing i want.

Is this just a way of making seasons more mandatory? Seasonal journey sounds like daily quests+ and boy do I hope that they won't add the limitations they added to D:I to daily rewards. I might have misread but I thought the XP boosts are for 2nd chars and up after getting to some progression with your main one. I did a season once in D3. It's not something I would do unless I'm going to commit to having D4 as my main game for some time during that season. It's pretty time consuming. It's like playing a long-term victory Total War campaign or a long JRPG.

That's what made PoE so good as the in-game store made it so they always had a reason to keep updating and adding onto the game meanwhile D3 rots.

And all that time people are still playing D2 and GD even though they have none of that and haven't been updated in decades. If you have a good game in the first place you don't need a constant stream of updates to keep people interested.

I just now started a new character in Grim Dawn, because a friend mentioned it and we thought it would be fun to play together. So we did. Before that, i didn't play Grim Dawn in more than 2 years. But this whole discussion kind of feels like a rehash of one we had a few pages back?

But this whole discussion kind of feels like a rehash of one we had a few pages back? I guess this is unavoidable. It seems that in general regarding D4 people tend to fall into one of 2 camps: 1. Hopefuls that want a "modern" ARPG, with multiplayer elements, seasons, new content coming out regularly etc. (they also tend to not mind monetization as much) 2. People who would like to see Blizzard (and industry in general) return to its roots and focus more on releasing more of a standalone games that don't require constant updates, with more limited multiplayer features etc. (for ARPG that would mean 90% of the time playing SSF and the other 10% being interactions with other players - goofing out with friends, duking it out in pvp etc.) So, naturally the discussion will lean more into one of the camps which prompts the other camp to respond. With how little actual info we have about the game it'll mostly be in the realm of speculation so the same topics get re-iterated as neither side wants to yield and there's no new info to push the discussion further.

I think there's a third camp that doesn't really care for a live service game but can easily ignore those elements as long as it's not pay to win. Even with what little information we have, we already know it's going to be a live service game. I'll probably play mostly single player unless they make multiplayer much more rewarding like D3.
