Making a "GSL vs. the world" tournament and then having it single elimination requires a special level of stupidity I couldn't agree more. The whole event is organized with some extra degree of stupidity. Must be some interesting folk involved in organizing this, somewhat detached from the community. BTW - where is your vlog/blog from Korea ;-)

This is not HSC, where the fans fund and support the event. Would you prefer that Blizzard/Afreeca simply not have this event at all? Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. people are being negative because they see all the great support EA provides for RA3 and C&C4 as well as the awesome live events Relic puts on for CoH and the SC2 fans feel left out. Maybe if Blizzard had an annual celebration live event with 25,000+ people in early November like all the other RTS publishers do every year for their games the SC2 community would be in a better mood. they'll probably be at least 60,000 people at the big Dawn of War 3 event because the game just came out like 3 months ago. Relic is in Vancouver so they'll probably use the Olympic Village and Stadium from the 2010 Winter Games.

Prosperity is temporary, ingratitude is eternal. Enjoy what you have while understanding that nothing will last forever. Envy will get you nowhere. Some people are just..... The attitude of "shut up and be glad that there is a tournament" is borderline insane. The tournament is there for us to watch, so it should matter what we think about it!

The attitude of "shut up and be glad that there is a tournament" is borderline insane. The tournament is there for us to watch, so it should matter what we think about it! The tournament is there for sixteen players to compete for who's best among those in attendance. We're lucky to watch such elite competition so try and be a little less entitled. What stands out most is your total lack of regards for the logistical elements of running a event with competitors from across the world. I'm guessing you would prefer a week long event to accommodate all these matches? Are the foreign players supposed to pay for their own lodgings or is Afreeca doing that? Does Afreeca need to have translators available because of the language barrier between staff and foreign players? Doing so would require they grab translators from other divisions of Afreeca, leaving those groups shorthanded (for quite a long period of time if you had your way). It's a rather ignorant statement to assert they should tailor the tournament around you, when the most important parties, the players, and secondly, the crew required to produce the event, are far more important than someone who is just whining without putting any actual thought it.

So should not be able to say that we don't like a tournament format because every tournament is a gift from the heavens, not meant to be questioned? Stop acting like Afreeca is doing as a favor and all we can do is to accept with gratitude. It's a for-profit company, the tournament is a product and we are the customers, so of course the tournaments should be tailored around the viewers, being viewed is the fucking point of a broadcasted tournament. Even if I accepted your priorities, are you sure that the players wouldn't prefer a format that doesn't cut off half of them after the first match? Single-elimination tournaments are hated rather universally. The rest of what you wrote is just excuses, we have seen endless weekenders, often with significantly more than 16 players, played under much better formats, so this talk about lodgings makes absolutely zero sense for a 4-day long event.

if so, single elimination is the only way to go.

If Afreeca stuck to their normal broadcast schedule that would be a 7 day tournament (4 days for groups 2 days for r8, 1 day for semis and finals (hell they might make it eight if they really stuck to it)). The tournament isn't being held at FreecUP, so that type of structure sounds really expensive.

At the same time i am happy that this tournament exists in the first place, so it's tough to be too critical
