Been awhile since I blogged. Must say this has been another fantastic year for me so far. My pup is over a year old and matured in a lot of ways. For the first time in my life I am working at a place that I don't hate. It's been very odd to wake up and not think "fuck work." Instead I wake up and just go to work. I used to count down the days until the weekend, now I don't because I don't care as much. The worst part about my new job is waking up. Also doesn't hurt that I now get a full week off for thanksgiving break, 2 weeks off for winter break and then a week off for spring break. I've been doing IT for a little over 2 years and this job made me realize it wasn't IT I hated, it was the job and how they treated their employees. I do not miss my last 2 IT jobs at all.
I originally told myself I wouldn't get LOTV (pretty sure I have a post on reddit saying that to xD). I was disappointed in Blizzard's lack of changes and yet I got it anyway. I tried getting back into hots in march and didn't last long, maybe a week before I quit again. Tried lotv beta, wasn't a fan of zvz (and most players still played hots) so I quit again.
This week I have only been wanting to play LOTV. I am hooked to the game again and I think it's in part because everything is so different in ways. Builds, the new units are cool (except cyclones, what a bleh units) and it seems for the most part turtling is gone (for now anyway). I am not only motivated to play but also to start writing guides again. Doubt I will ever play in many online tournaments, but I might give WCS a shot. Depends on days and times of course, but my goal is to just have fun and improve at the game.
I am enjoying ravagers and lurkers a lot, experimenting with builds, good timings to get lurkers, using them defensively and attacking. It's nice for example that Protosses have to respect the Zerg a little more. For some reason most Protosses I have played only go blink stalker and never transition, so far faced 2 protosses that finally made disruptors. Zvt is fun and god is it satisfying to see lurkers destroy a bio ball. Fuck zvz!
I am still writing my book. I am at a little over 110,000 words. Hoping to finish this draft by December. With all the free time I am going to have, I better do it. I figure this book will get to 130k or so words before I finish the first one. Really looking forward to it, I have been writing this book for a little over a year. Looking at my last blog in January I was at 42,000 words. Been a little slow, but grinding on! After this, revise, revise and somehow get a book cover and editor for hopefully not too much money... This will be something I worry about later of course .
Aye until next time my fellow people, keep a positive attitude and if you hate something try to fix it!

blade, you're a boss. I feel the same way, during the beta I was thinking "meh, only want to play this game for the campaign, multiplayer looks lame." Now I'm addicted to it... and playing way more than I expected to
Anyway, hope to see your guides later on, I also think Zerg is really fun right now. Protoss also. Terran not so much Hopefully that'll change.
gl on ladder and (hopefully) WCS

Currently just IT support. My end goal is to be a system administrator, but that will be a couple more years. I intend on staying at this current position for awhile unless something changes for some reason.

Let me know if you want/need an extra pair of eyes on your book - I'd be happy to help a fellow writer out.

What's your book about? Also how on earth did you deal with several years of hating your work?

Wasn't several years. My first job in IT I didn't hate (because it was new), but left after a year as they never gave raises. My 2nd job I didn't hate at first. Actually it was an amazing place for the first 3-4 months I was there. I believed their "we care about the employees" they mentioned in the interview and while I was there. They showed their true colors when we got busy with a ton of clients. Then everyone who enjoyed working there hated it. Rules kept changing (for the worst), got stricter and stricter and eventually got to the point where they were firing people for the dumbest reasons. After 2 months of that I looked for a new job and got one 4 months later. I worked there for 10 months in total.
I should written my job hatred a bit better, I just never enjoyed a job at all until this current one.
My book on the other hand is a good question. I have thought how I would explain it and always find it difficult. It's a sci-fi with magic in ways, with a war that starts by an unknown species. I'm trying to make the enemy not the typical "evil" while also going with a realistic non typical approach. Don't intend on going the typical storyline that's predictable.

I've never been one to practice zvz and with how zvz centric the ladder is, lol I am stoked when I don't get a zvz. Although my zvz's have died down a ton when I switched to Korean server. Been kind of nice to be able to actually play terran/protoss.

Stylistically, who would you consider to be your biggest influences for writing?
|
I'm a pretty big fan of Troy Denning and George Martin. I don't know how much stylistically that I copy them especially with my current writing. After finishing this before doing major editing I intend on re-reading a book from both of them.

Hey blade! remember watching your stream a lot back in the day, really enjoyed it! just bought lotv myself even though I said I wouldn't, you're not alone. Your guides were great, would love to see some more feeling kinda lost in lotv so far (like everyone else I guess). Any plans for streaming?
|
I stream everyday since lotv came out . Normally around 10 PM est. I have a week off starting this friday so lots of streaming next week!
|
Long time chat buddy! Hope all has been well. I actually had the EXACT same sentiment with you about LOTV. Didn't even play in the beta for it, bought it the other day and now I'm hooked. See you on the ladder
