13 years ago I graduated from High School With a 2.3 GPA. I managed to get into Oregon Institute of Technology despite it due to pretty high SAT scores.
I was a slacker, procrastinator, and was easily distracted. I ended with a 1.82 GPA at OIT before I got kicked out my 2nd year. My life went a different direction, and it wasn't bad, I had neat experiences, but as I grew older I did regret my lack of discipline. I knew that those opportunities might not ever come again.
Eventually I ended up joining the military, and while there I took some community college classes. I separated with the G.I. bill, and moved to Baltimore where my Fiance lives. I started going to Baltimore City Community College full time.
I took it pretty seriously and made sure to do everything I could to keep a 4.0. But BCCC isn't what I wanted, they don't even have any sort of computer science degree, and I decided to try to get into University of Maryland(college park). Apparently they have very high acceptance standards, so I wasn't sure what my odds were, but I did manage to get in!
I am going to be pursuing the same degree as I went for 13 years ago, except this time at a better school with a mind that is much more ready to actually work and succeed.
I know other people here go to that school, so if you are one of them and you are reading this, Hi! Anything I should know?

Congrats travis. I went to College Park. Also, military. We are similar!
Are you planning to commute from Baltimore to College Park?

I don't own a car, I sold it before I moved here. My fiance has one but I am sure she will need it. We plan on moving somewhere that is closer. I think we will need to move somewhere that has public transportation to UMD. I could buy a car in the future but I don't have funds to do that at this point in time.
Also we don't really want to live in Baltimore anyways because it's dangerous and it's too busy with events all the time.

From what I recall, the metro station isn't that close to the University, and is also not the best walk after dark.
I lived on/around campus when I attended, so I don't have much insight for you regarding good places to live unfortunately.

Congrats! My parents and several cousins graduated from there. They all loved it. Good luck!
