I recently saw "I Am Legend", and afterwards i got to thinking. There has been a bunch of movies with similar plot like "28 Days Later" etc. In these movies humans gets infected by some kinda virus and it spreads really fast and soon most of the population is either dead or has turned into zombies.
During the zombie virus spreading, I assume people with different disabilities are the first to go. For example people with physical disabilities and also people with mental disabilities. This is related to darwinism and so on.
What im wondering is what happens to people with disabilities that turns into zombies. For example what happens to a person that is paralyzed from the waist down. It seems highly illogical that this person is suddenly cured when turned into a zombie.
Another thing that I'm wondering about is people with mental "problems". With this I mean different diseases like scizo, depressesion etc. But also people with brain damage, downs people etc.
Well what I would like to know more about is what happens to all the "abnormal" people that gets turned into zombies. How do they relate to "normal" zombies. Behavioural issues. Everything.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Lol, what a surreal topic, why don't you ask a scientist who specializes in zombies?

yes people can shed light on this because of the vast body of research that exists in this particular domain

Well it says in The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks (borrowed from a friend) that zombies are not going to gain any super powers and unless the person had super powers, he would not get it as a zombie.
But we have to look at the anatomy of a zombie, all but their brsain shuts down, which says that they can send messages to the spine, which seems to suggest that they wouldn't be healed. Although I think that they wouldn't know how to push a wheelchair if they were paralyzed face down

hahahah
well, for mental disabilities, most of these abnormal "dark seekers" were reduced to basic mental abilities anyways, so i would say majority of these psychological disorders would simply go away. they simply run around trying to eat/kill everything that moves. they did display emotions such as anger tho, despite what will smith said in the movie.

Well I have a phd in zombology, so let me explain this to you. Zombies=
28 days later*********************I am legend ----------------------------- / --------------------------------------- X box office to COS A Awesome rage virus**Cure for cancer gone wrong
What the above chart means is that I am Legend was stupid, and 28 days later had awesome zombies that had red eyes and ripped you apart limb from limb

gakkgakk why don't you inhale that virus and tell us what happened to your mental disability?

Zombies die before they awake. The don't simply turn into Zombies. Dead cells will be reactivated.. thats how I think it works.
|
I'm no expert but I'd assume they simply carry on their disabilities into zombie-hood. Hollywood tends not to focus on these individuals since, relative to their healthy counterparts, their lives are not quite as exciting and thus in general do not make for good antagonists in action/horror movies. Great idea for a zombie-based soap opera though

no zombies are zombies walking pieces of rotten flesh that like to eat you, they dont go no powers no mental capabilities, just walking hungry hobos ;(

You are all fukin retarded lol

I think the real question here is why are zombies faster and stronger than humans? How can a disease that destroys your body cause you gain physical abilities? I makes no sense.

I've always had a concern about zombies: Zombies are practically the same in every movie. They are the same even in fantasy books. Ok, there are minor differences, such as the speed of move etc. So, in a fantasy environment, zombies are reanimated with some kind of black magic. Ok. They move, eat, kill. But in a modern environment, zombies are reanimated with viruses.. usually. After they die, they move, eat, kill. But they aren't moved by magic! Lol. They use the same organs, organsystems like before their death. But, if this is the case, how can they survive ripping off their hands, or other limbs. I never understand, why is only headshot effective against them.

Scizo zombie... well that would be an interesting thing. Zombie do not feel pain and have very limited intelligence though(i know this from watching alot of zombie movies!) so dont know, maybe it wont be a problem for them seeing as well... they're plain dumb anyway?

The zombiez in I am Legend weren't reanimated. The Viruses took over the people's bodies. Remember, Neville said it had a XX% kill rate, a XX% zombie rate, and a X% immunity rate.
Therefore, I assume that the retarded people, & people with disabilities would have been killed off, as their bodies may not have been able to handle the virus, etc.

I think it is because Zombies do not exist.

agreed 28days later is a great movie, I am legend is total garbage and i am a big fan of the zombie terror subgenre.
i also have a PHD in zombology and i give speeches on several universities about the latest results on the research of the field of the undead.
a body cannot move withouth electric impulses through the nerves no matter what controls the brain, so even if a virus controls the primitive brain of the human, the information wouldnt pass any kind of severed nerve, so NO, a person who cannot walk alive cannot walk as a zombie.
Mental diseases are however \"cured\" because as mentioned before, zombies work only on a very basic primitive brain, the maximium intelligence they show is using some primitive weaponary like axes, so something like downs syndrome wouldnt affect them at all.
What remains unanswered is if zombies can actually procreate.
We can assume that some of their organs are still working, otherwise the blood would solidfy and they would be unable to move... if we assume that then their reproductive organs might still work... so what comes out of a pregnant female zombie... o_oa

Well it could be that the extra chromosome makes downs people immune to death by the virus. So if its correct what he states then 90% of the earths population dies. Then this means the regular/downs ratio of the zombie population will be skewed compared to the regular/downs population among non-zombies.
But this is ofcourse only if the downs people are more resistant to zombie viruses than regular people.

Well, there isn't enough evidence to support any of our theories, so I'll just call you wrong ^_________^.
I just assumed the Virus took control of the brain, shut down most of the 'more' human functions, and replaced them with 'viral' functions. So, in essence, the viruses act through the zombiez.
